I'm applying for my dream job as an avy tech in Rogers Pass![]()
I think I have a pretty good chance but I'd love for someone who is all ready in the industry to have a look over my resume and application before I send it off and give me some comments.

just a quick Q, what kind of experience is necessary/advisable for jobs like this? for example: avy levels 1,2 and 3, many years of experience, and what else? I'm graduating in December, and am obsessed with/spend all of my free time in the BC. If I could one day do avy work as a job, that'd be one of my dreams as well. I've taken avy level 1 and 2 and spend as much time as I can learning more and more from people who I can find that are more knowledgeable than I. What sorts of other experiences should I look to adding to the resume to make myself a good candidate for several years in the future?
Hey Man
Like to say good luck, the competition is pretty stiff but it would be the best job in the world!! I got an interview last year but be prepared Parks is very...hmm lets say inbred, not to knock the hand that feeds me, but, for competitions like this they usually have someone in mind from within the Rev/Glacier field unit. If you have your level 2 it will help out and or some experience in a snow safety outfit at a hill or with highways in the province..for C man i would recommend the same, get you level one and spend a couple of years on an avi team somewhere (easier said then done) but it will help. If you have the cash get your level 2 but the 2100 bucks is a bit of hit. Good luck!
I just sent my resume off. After working as a research assistantin the snow science world all through my degree, and having taken a ski guide apprenticeship back home in Norway I think my application is pretty strong. Fingers crossed. I just hope they haven't hired anybody from with-in parks already although I get the impression that this in an entry level position.
In canada you need at least your Avy 1 (a junior professional level course) and preferably your Avy 2 (your need 100days industry experience to take it) Blasting tickets are good, as are certification for transport of hazardous materials, medical/rescue certs, a university education, most important though is experience in the BC, experience with risk management in a professional capacity.
Its not the kind of job that you can do one day a week - it takes commitment as you are often working in remote areas and working shift work.
i am between canmore/revy/waterton right now, working as a warden for p.c and i did apply for the job, also applied for a winter warden job in the pass, but like i said its tough to get in, they usually have an idea of who they want for these jobs before they post them, not always though and with your background you might have a good shot. I have a friend who applied as well and she has her level 2 plus 8 years of guiding behind her and she already works for parks....but who knows....the interviews with parks are always held with a three or four person panel and the questions are usually a bunch of touchy feely life experience type questions. where are you at?
live in a van! That way the snow is always knee deep and fresh at home.
i'm in golden. working pro patrol at kicking horse, and just starting in on the acmg drama. sounds like i'm in for some stiff competition.
