    LOOK P18 vs. PX18

I just scored some new BROs. (Thanks Pat). I'm thinking of mounting them with either P18 or PX18. I think that the P18 is a better binding, because I like the turntable heel. However, the PX18 comes with a 100mm brake. The price for the P18 is $225. The PX 18 will cost me $275 + tax. Sounds like a no brainer, but I have never bent P18 brakes before, and am a little gun shy. OTOH, turntables and a savings of $70 is significant.

It's easy. Just follow Slim's directions and (3 or 4 knuckles later) you'll be in bidness.

Aside from no turntable, you lose that $$$$ forward pressure adjustability with the PXs. Spend the extra $70 on tuning tools.

^^ I was in the same boat, but went with the PX15 (didn't need the 10-18 DIN of the PX18). An extra $25 (over a p18) for 115mm wide brakes and not having to bend another pair of turntable brakes was worth it for me....I agree the turntable heel is better though, but the new metal PX heel is as nice, if not nicer, than a salomon heel due to increased elasticity....

As I understood it, the PX series is designed to have more forward pressure than the old P series. The turntables really dont have all that much adjustability, but they do ski different due to the shorter footprint.

    1) Where can I get some P18's for $225?

    2) Note the technique with the 2x4 and vise to close the treadle when bending- far easier than disassembly. (I have done about 20 pair using a c-clamp variation, but that vise technique is the shit).

    3) PM me if you need the vise technique elaborated on.

Ok so the pxs have been out for a while now and after a short disappearance the p18s are back out as well. Whats the consensus p vs px?

Uh, this was a 5 year old thread. Think the consensus remains that px's are good, pivots are great.

PX are good and heavy. Pivots are great and expensive.

If you go the PX route, get the wormscrew version.

You should be able to get PX 18s with XXL brakes for less than $150, that was the going price here NIB last year
