SV is 'severe' or something like that. It's heavier duty than the AR, probably a bit more waterproof.

AR is All Round, I think. I also think that the 'teryx has the most indecipherable names for their gear.

you can't zip the hood away on the SV and the SV has different cuff closures than the AR. not sure what else is different.

Yup, SV means "severe use" and AR means "allround". LT means "light", too (that one's a little more obvious heh).

Basicly the SV uses a tougher face fabric. It's not necessarily more waterproof as such but yeah it should be a little more durable.

Also, the SV is a tad lighter.

The AR, has a "stow hood" which as mentioned can be zipped away. The SV has a "drop hood" which gives better weather protection (one down from the "storm hood" on their alpha SVs), but can't zip away.

Personally, i'm gunna get an SV. not cos i really need one rather than the AR, but because i reckon they look better and the price difference isn't so great for me

All I can tell you is that I've eaten shit off of my bike onto concrete while wearing my Alpha SV, and the fabric didn't show any damage whatsoever. I was impressed....

As far as I understand, SV means tougher fabric. SV and AR are both 3-layer XCR, just different durabilities. LT is usually Paclite. (All assuming we are talking about shell jackets/pants)

download their fall catalogue (arcteryx.com, under service). go to page 97 and you'll find their naming convention:

    Arc’teryx Naming
    SV - Severe Use
    AR - All-Round Use
    LT - Light
    SL - Super Light
    MX - Mixed Use
    SK - Ski Specialized
    RT - Rolltop

Actually, this year's SV, AR and LT will be the new proshell for most models. SL (superlight) stuff will be made using paclite.

Ah, forgot about that proshell gimmick. I stand corrected.
