I miss skiing. Driest Jan/Feb on record here in UT. Rode shoreline from the house on the SS in a t shirt and shorts. Fingers crossed for this pattern change they keep talking about.

Yeah. It was 60 degrees, yet everything was still frozen?!! Shorts and a t-shirt here felt weird as fuck too.

Where's the best place to ride in the western U.S. in early May?? Considering Bellingham and Utah but curious about other options. Also, never been to Bellingham, is May a good time of year to ride there? Rainy?

Rode skinnies on dirt for the first time this year and almost died. I forgot how much grip you get with fat tires on snow. The rain rolls in today and I'm bummed about being banished to the basement.

Took advantage of today’s 60 degree weather. Trails still a little soft in central CT.

    New bike day

After umming and aahing about what I could do to make my previous bike feel more nimble in tight turns in the end I decided to just bite the bullet white the value was still good and get a size smaller. In the end I found a buyer for only a few hundred less than I'd paid, and bought the new version (2022 YT Capra 29) - slacker head tube, steeper seat tube, fancy carbon, and room for a water bottle  - but in M instead of L (at 175cm I'm bang on between sizes).

Ordered about a week ago and turned up yesterday, so took her out for her maiden spin in my lunch break today:

So far so good! Definitely feels both sprightlier uphill and more agile going down, though after only one short ride I can't say much more than that. VERY quiet. Despite deliberately taking it easy to get to know the bike I got a 3rd (personal) best time uphill and (personal, obviously haha) 2nd fastest on 2 segments downhill; I don't particularly care about times but probably a good sign that it fits me better. It is really nice riding with a bottle in the frame and so no pack though!

Only downside so far is only 125mm dropper instead of the 150 on the previous bike; not sure what YT's reasoning was there but personally I'd rather 150 again.

Got out for the first time on skinny studs. Not a fast ride as I wasn't interested in finding the limit of grip but fun to get out. Been struggling with the transition parts of winter around here and I think this will fill the gap between skiing and dirt well.

Early May is good in Bellingham. Rainy, yes, but generally the bigger storms are gone by then and it's just light showers and comfortable riding temps. That said, most places have pretty ideal conditions in early May. One of the PNW advantages is that it's still good in the middle of summer when other places are hot AF and blown to moondust.
If you come to WA, be sure to save some time for the Issaquah - North Bend area trails (tiger, raging river, tokul, duthie)

Been like MoAb of old. Quiet trails and great weather. Maybe just timing 🤷♂️

This is really going to pay off.
Both in terms of skills, but also how she looks at the trail and unlocks the fun and alternatives that it holds.

Looks like the only thing I’ll be riding for a while is the pine.

I’ve been enjoying my new 160mm Grip2 Fox 36 so much this season, once i got it set up it really transformed the bike.

Unfortunately it’s made me much more likely to get sendy. Which I did yesterday, overshooting the downslope on a gap jump and landing the flat.

One Grade IV kidney laceration later I’m in the hospital for a couple days. It’s pretty alarming seeing all those blood clots come out of your pee.

Hope so. I love doing same stuff and enjoy the practice side of it. As long as she’s willing can definitely amp up her skills with these fun games. We have a pretty big teeter on our trail system, she’s not ready for it and asked if I’d build her a practice one first. No brainer yes to that. Also planning on a backyard pumptrack build this spring as well.

My ski/bike buddies and I joke that we wish to be reincarnated as our own kids.

Kids and I closed out last day of our local PA bump in the morning for some corn and then slush. Followed up with pumptrack session in afternoon and ice cream on way home. Fun day and 72*
