Not too many people can make a living just riding- and what happens when that 10k bike is not the latest and greatest. Guess they can work at the bike shop and get deals the rest of their lives.
it doesn't prevent them from going to college, just ties up that ten grand each. In all honesty, having that 10k in the form of a bike versus money in the parents' bank account or some other financial instrument could be key in those kids receiving Pell Grants over their 4 years in college which could add up to way more than what the bikes cost. The system is somewhat FUBARed.
other than loans and grants, I paid for my college. Wish I got a 10k bike to go along with it.

the way it was worded...'make your choice' sounds like it sort of is- but yea I guess I did picture it more of them being like " Fuck Yeah we ain't going to school.. we're going riding everyday!" when it's probably more like- you can have this money now or later in various forms- take your choice.

Still a $10k bike is really almost absurdly unnecessary. And that is coming from the mouth of a gear whore.

No grants for me still paying on em. Wife has 100k plus but thanks to a govt program she only has to make 10 years of payments based on income then the loan will be forgiven. Shit I just reminded my self the year the loan balance is forgiven the government will tax you on that.

First ride on the Newmad. Methinks it's going to work out just fine.

Did some riding this week around north/west Tahoe. Yogi's is awesome... I appreciate the efforts taken by the locals to keep it somewhat hidden (no way would I have found it without a friend's notes). Berms were in great shape. Nice views...

Nice acinpdx- your son looks way better than I am already
scrublover- me thinks you also made a good choice- those rollover shots are sweet
and TahoeJ- sigh.. I want to ride there SO badly- looks fun. like your bike too

Here's one from Fri night bikes last night at the Teton village- we did the chainless race- andrew won for men and I sucked- but it was fun. Some asian tourists admiring my bike. Yea... it's real pretty isn't it

And this is of my new steed. Best thing about andrew getting a new bike is the hand me downs
Thought I would for sure want to replace the single ring up front with a 2x but after a ride this evening I think I'll roll with it for a bit. Downed tree on Hagen =nice place for gratuitous bike shot teeheeheehee

Wife and I checked out some new trails somewhere in the Selkirks the day the BWC was signed. Felt some strange pangs of ambivalence for a second when the driver of an FJ40 who was poaching the steep, non-motorized trail saw me and decided to depart at speed.

ETA: photo upload sucks--can we just email them to you, Dunfee? (Thanks for the tires, though, they rock!!)

Brought the whole digital media department including interns from TGR to the JHMR bike park last week. Everyone you blame your forum problems on all on the same trails!

Super fun and although no one rides the bike park it is silly fun over there.

Nice bike! God those Ibis wheels look sweet.... if those ENVE wheels are just collecting dust, you know how to sell to for a cut-rate price

Fun times in Telluride last week. Rained just about every afternoon but the rides were still fun. Wish I could've gotten out of town a bit more but had a few family commitments.

Pretty trail.... what's the riding like down there? Haven't seen or heard much outside of that Yeti video with Joey brappin' all over the place down there.

I really like it. Lots of options and link ups for potential all day epics. Plenty of stuff within a reasonable drive of town too. I didn't have a lot of free time this trip so I was limited to the trails in the ski area. Took the DH bike as well and spent a few hours at their bike park. Not huge but some fun features.

    Nor me, fun morning ride!

To bad you had to work the next day, turned out to be really fun, if not a bit hot towards the end.

Cool.... Had no idea they had a bike park either. With all the old Mining trails there's gotta be a ton to explore down there.

No worries. Schralph and I had an awesome ride up to the rock on the rim trail so as I could cache a little more gear for a climbing overnighter tomorrow. They are rerouting about 50 yards of trail to avoid the first small stair section you get to leaving Armstrong Pass on the way to Freel Pass. Kinda sucks but the last couple times I rode it there were little skid mark trenches just before the drops so i get it I guess.

^^ I think alternate routes around sketchy tech sections or drops are great for the reason you just mentioned. Without them the entrances go to hell and you get braking bumps everywhere.

Really pisses me off on the way they have been sanitizing the rim trail over the last couple years. They rerouted around one favorite rock steps on the bench not long ago. Something is about to happen on the Toads Waterfall soon, at least Tamba is doing that one, but I see no need to change anything there, I love it the way it is. What they really need to do is reroute some of that piece of shit routing on the Monument pass trail.
