My pedal found a rootball yesterday, sending me into a nose wheelie to endo to bike flip. The endo was smooth, mostly cuz my face was so close to my tire for so long, it was and easy tuck and roll. I have awesome bruising right above my junk from my handlebar and shifter though.

A little CSI of the scene led me to the crater, then the root itself which was blasted about 6 ft up the trail and 2ft off in the trees.

^^^Nice, glad it didn't end badly.

Speaking of endo stories, a few weeks ago I was riding the new dirt jumps in Draper and went to take my first crack at the single black line (this was before they had finished it and only the first two jumps were in). They put in these ~10" rock ledges at the entrance, which I somehow totally blew the ollie up onto and my rear wheel cased hard while my body had already started the dive down the backside into the initial rollers. My weight was pretty far forward, so when my rear wheel hit it shot the rear end of my bike straight into the air and I looped out spectacularly. Did a full half rotation in the air and landed on my back. I was riding clips and the bike still went flying. At least 15 people saw it happen and I got quite a few "Are you OK man?" comments. Thankfully damage was limited to some sore ribs for a day or two and a bent derailleur.

Kingdom trails were fast but Im guessing after all this rain shit will slow down a bit.

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.

It was also foggy on going to the sun road saturday morning:

Couldn't see much at the top

sun came out on the way down though

Kicking myself for not doing that ride until now. Think next weekend is about the last chance to do it before it's open to cars.

I did the same three weeks back, clipped my peddle on a rock hidden behind some grass. I dislocated my left middle and ring fingers. My middle finger popped back when I was pulling off my glove but the ring finger from the middle knuckle down was still bent out over my pinky finger. I had my buddy put it back for me. I went out on my first ride since that crash yesterday. My hand is still super sore and swollen but it's manageable now for riding at least.

My bike sits real low and clipping pedals is always something I need to be aware about. I'm kind of over being hurt these days. I turn 40 in September and I'm sort of dealing with some midlife thoughts that are conflicting with my pastimes.

Tell me about it, I hear ya on the midlife whatever. My little brother just turned 40 man. And I just broke my back this spring as you know. I withdrew from the BME series and only have one other race entry on my docket, in October. I basically can't ski anymore due to my knee being bone on bone. Biking is still great for me if I can figure out how slow down. Had some dark moments between this winter and spring though. Fuck. Just bought a WRX and sold my truck to buy a Van. At least things are looking up now!

There aren't a whole lot of roads I've pedaled up that I'd consider must-dos but that's definitely one of them. My only regret was not packing skis on my back.

Do they still hold back cars in the summer until 8am or whatever it is? They used to. It was nice not having to worry about traffic. Must be even better to have all day like that.

Looking at the FAQ I don't see any restrictions on when you can drive it. For bikes you can ride it during the summer as long as you are done before 11 or start after 4. I'm thinking I want to get in an evening ride sometime this summer. We were going pretty slow and it took about 2 hours to get to the top from Avalanche. So you could leave there at like 7pm and still be back by dark.

Oh, and here's a good one a friend got of me when we had to wait for some bears:

Maybe that's what it was.....bikes had to be OFF the road by a certain time. It's been a while. There's been lots of whiskey since then. They had just popped the pass when we were there too so It might have been a deal like when you guys were up there. Either way....a sweet road ride going over that pass. I'd love to do it again.

Ouch. dislocated finger riding a couple years ago. it got better. key is to keep moving them as much as possible so they don't freeze up and lose range of motion. that was advice from a hand surgeon.
