I always picture Phish playing a massive show on the Mile Long Field
Just picture the stage at the bottom of the field, that's my happy place!

Nice to look through this thread and see the colours start to change in the pictures. Some really nice shots in there. I took a little break from summer but now it's back to the bike and the fucking switchbacks (which start just about where the trail ends in the picture).

heh, the only sporty activity where I feel like I can rightfully claim some measure of technical proficiency is skiing.

Okay, I'll try to take some next time. Really though it's just hiking trails that go one way and then go the other way somewhat abruptly. Some definitely require that move where you lift and swing the rear tire, others would be fine if I just was a little more balanced and not as reluctant to commit to actually steering as much as needed.

I have these of two especially dumb ones with some features added in the turn:

yeah I am being consistently assured that it is not very beginner friendly by my riding buddies, who are great

the roly poly stuff is kinda hard to come by. i know i should go find some lifts and actual bike trails, just haven't gotten around to it. I don't mind going really slowly down a bunch of roots. it seems like that is mostly a mental issue. At least for the stuff I've been on, I know all I would need to do is let the bike roll over the root/rock/whatever. It pisses me off way more when I am rolling along nicely but there is a switchback every 30 meters that I can't get around, which is the case on the stuff closest to home. The former feels kinda like taking it easy on an exposed ski run where you could go faster but whatever. the latter is like smoothly cruising a bump line and then fucking it all up for no good reason. not sure if that comparison makes sense to anyone except me

as usual, thanks for the encouragement everyone. hope to get some nice autumn rides in before skiing takes over again..

Encountered a few motos out on Miller Peak on Sunday, stopped and talked to them a few times. This is a PNW gem that doesn't get ridden very much. Not sure how many more days like this we have but I'll take them.

Great ride. Did you do a loop with Miller Peak/County Line/Iron Bear?

Brother in law @ his first lift day. Got him a lesson/rental package. Kid enjoyed it very much. No big stacks, got more comfortable with speed, etc. He's 6'5" though - the largest rental they had was still a bit tiny for him!

Out running. Her first encounter with seeing or hearing a jetski, down in the river below. Was fascinated.

Out and back from Iron Bear TH to the summit. Little loose from moto use but surprisingly gripped very well.
