does anyone else have lens cover jamming w/ Canon A-series?

Now I have to replace the A560 because the retractable lens cover flaps won't open anymore.....the same say the A510 wouldn't open.

Best Buy will let me exchange it, but I'm reticent to get another of those body styles because of the problems. Maybe it's because I take it mtn. biking and skiing and dust/dirt get in the mechanisms.

But to change body styles means that I might lose the viewfinder, which (to me) is crucial for taking action pictures in burst mode cause you can't follow the subject on the screen as the camera cycles.

Any suggestions on viewfinder-friendly camera's (Canon preferably) that don't have that body style? I figure it's just the chip that was changed b/t the A510 and the A560 and the lens motor is all the same.

I've got $150 credit and would spend maybe $100 more for a different camera. Thx.

edit- this is the offending camera body

they are great otherwise, check out this shot I took last winter (I know, big repeat, but c'mon!)

My A540 has been doing that. Not all the time but occasionaly. Its caused me to miss some great shots too. I'm just gonna live with by always checking it to make sure it has opened all the way each time.

It still takes great shots though

Mine does the same thing occasionally. It's really annoying.

yeah, you're right, Ronaldo. That picture sucks. Sorry bout that.

but.....it is relevant to the viewfinder discussion, cause I know I don't have the skills to square it up like that in the moment and...goddamn, that's one hell of a shitty ski shot

i hate looking at that, makes me feel.....oooogie

I have had two jam also, both were repaired by Canon at no charge. You can do a search there are some fixes suggested on some camera boards. That said, none of those ever worked for me.

I have an A610 in to Canon for repairs on that issue right now.

If you don't want that body style, get a Canon Gx series or an Sx0 series.
