Exploders for Touring?

I've got a pair of old school neon yellow Explosivs, and am debating whether they would serve best as an inbounds full on charging ski (alpine binders), or if I should mount some Fritchis to haul 'em around the BC. Obviously heavier than most touring skis, but probably pretty solid in PNW crud? Anyone have experience touring on Explosivs? Pros and cons?

Well, my AT rig is 190 Explouders and my this seasons main touring ski will be 180 Explouder w/ teles.

Pros: Busts through almost anything and great edge hold in marginal conditions. Also fat enough to float.

Cons: Heavy.

I think those are pretty common for touring...i will be taking off my alpine binders on my 190s this winter and replacing them with AT.

Got three pairs, luv this ski, I have one pair set up for inbound 6-12" or less day (spats for anything bigger), one pair with frichis, and one hammered pair that am taking out of retirement to cut down for my boy. As for the backcountry ski, yeah they are heavier than most set ups, but oh so bomber. You will need a stiff AT boot to get em to perform well, if you don't AT with regular boots. I ride Adrenilines and while they don't compare to my resort boot they are a good comprimise. As for the weight factor, you will just need to be in a little better shape to keep up with yer buddies on a lighter setup, but you'll get em on the downhill.

I would like to have a pair of yellow's for my collection......that is version 1. Sick.

CP1 and I come from the same school (probably because we have skied together for 10 years). Anyhow, depends what your options are for the other Downhill and BC ski. Would be fun for BC, but fun charging resort ski too.

I've seen that ski mounted with Dynafits... and they still kick the crude. Put the right binder on 'em and they swing both ways. I haven't had an "inbound" ski since the Fritchi came out... I'm not a hucker or fussy about performance tho and go home if there isn't much left of the pow.

I'll take em out for short (under 5 mile) tours, but anything longer than that and they become a PITA-mostly because of what bindings I have on them (Bomber Bishops).

I've got a pair with fritchis and I dig 'em. They're lighter than many other skis I've hiked with so they feel light as hell when I take them out. I mainly use them for spring skiing or questionable condition days. If it's deep, I've got a pair of noodly made'n AKs I grab. Usually when I'm out, it's all day and I don't feel like they're beasts or anything. Of course, I used to tour on some legend pros. Those are heavy.
