living in utah was what got me started homebrewing in the first place, although i'm pretty sure that's the opposite of what they're trying to accomplish with those laws- i drink more and they don't get a cut. now that i live somewhere in which decent cold beer can be purchased readily, i haven't been brewing nearly as much.

Ha! Me too. I've got my third batch in the fermenter and two more aging in bottles. No more Utah beer for me once those ripen up!

A buddy of mine and our girlfriends stayed at a condo near Sugarloaf last year, and there was a bar that shared the parking lot with us called "Tofulio's." (sp?) They had Geary's Hamphshire Special Ale on tap for 2$ at happy hour from 4-6. HSA has something like 7 or 8% alc. and my buddy and I would race each other to see how many we could get down in the two hours.

Let me tell you that 8 of those in two hours leaves you stumblin' out the door!

To each his own. I have whittled my selection down to Harpoon IPA or Sierra Nevada Pale--the two best beers on the planet.

These are some well traveled beers, 3,500 miles to be exact.

As we have no jobs and the place we're crashing at is less than ideal for inviting folks over, perhaps beer deliveries this week would be the way to work this.

Only five folks are on my list, Buzzworthy, Criscam, Bob O, Big Jay, and Altaholic. Sorry Tresckow, I couldn't get my hands on any UBU.

PM me contact info and you'll have chilled VT beers in no time.

Or some Wolavers as well. Yum.

I actually went on a beer run from North Conway to CB one time.
7 days. One day of 10 inches or so on top of a 20 inch dump from 3 days prior at CB.
The gear was in the roofbox, I'd never been there, and I was on the phone with a friend in Gunnison while I was going to the store.
Well, a pocket full of money from working all weekend and a quick call to work with a big lie and off I went.

Vermont is up there, I should know I grew up in the Burlington, VT area. Oregon has the most breweries per capita, they have something 40-50 + brewpub/ breweries for I think 2-3 million people vs. VT has 4-500,000 people w/ 10 breweries/brewpubs I can think of. California has a lot breweries too, and some damn good ones like Stone (that is the logo on my avatar), Lagunitas, Bear Republic, Anderson Valley, Anchor, etc.

I would put the states with the high beer per capita would be Colorado, Washington, Oregon, California, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. I know New York state has god breweries but I can only think of Brooklyn, Middle Ages, & Saranac as beer I have had from there.

Although I really wanna try Terrapin Brewing from Athens, GA, & I love Dogfish Head from Delaware.

I sent you a PM as well, also one place you should check out is The Bayou (I think it between 600-700 South on State St.) in downtown SLC, they have a beer list that will blow you away, and they have good food as well.

...except LT Pale. What is this Long Trail Pale Ale. Do you not speak of the Long Trail India Pale Ale? If so, yes, I have tried it and liked it. Harpoon is still my go-to in '07.
The IPA they make now is different from the IPA they made a few years back. The new one in unfiltered and more of a traditional pale ale. Still yummy though.

I love VT brews - Harpoon, Long Trail, and Magic Hat are my favs.

I don't drink tap beer in UT, because it has to be 4.0%, bottled beer can be whatever as long as it is from a UT licqour store. I would rather get loaded than bloated.

    Haha...yeah at 6.00 a beer too...

But on a serious note, the price of real beer at a Utah liquor store is ridiculous.

McNeills is really good, but it is hard to find in northern VT. I can't wait to go back home to VT in two weeks and drink LOTS of Magic Hat. How I love Fat Angel Pale Ale & Blind Faith IPA. Maybe some Shed, Rock Art & Trout River as well. I think Ake's Place still has Shed from the last time I back home in the Champlain Valley.

Stone Brewing Co. has a good saying:

their prices are a little above average but not out of reason, for being located downtown, I've seen places charge more than the bayou. They have an unreal selection of beer.

In Utah you have to know what to get, otherwise you'll be screwed. In liquor stores stay away from the big name beers i.e. Sam Adams, Bass, Pacifico, Newcastle, etc. Although there are some alright prices, you just have to look, like Full Sail, Seirra, Pyramid, Lev, Spaten, etc.

c'mon altaholic, a devote beer drinker like yourself must appreciate a good cask conditioned stout (when you can find it) regardless of alcohol content?
