    Question Ski Shipping

    Hey,
Quick question: Who do you all ship skis with, and how much does it cost. Got some boards from ebay and the guy wants 40 bucks just to ship... seems a bit steep. I want to give him some constructive suggestions to lower the price. I have always payed around $20 in the past. Thanks for your help.

    $20 shipping

    $5 for the box

    $15 for dealing with it

    maybe?

If you think its too much, and he didnt specify how much it would be before you bid, you can just tell him to forget about it.

$40 is about the right price for the dude to hand fat skis mounted with alpine binders over the counter at a UPS store and say "Please package these and ship them ground within the lower 48 states." Any more than that is an eBay seller's *handling* charge.
Lower 48 shipping should be around $20-$28 depending on the weight and obscure package dimensions (i.e. those giant jumping skis)

    Suggestions for lowering the price:
    - go to U-Haul and ask for 2 large lamp boxes and cut the bottoms out, that makes a good ski box for around $6, then fill with newspaper balls or whatever soft packing material and put the skis in
    - ship those fuckers slow, it's not like you're expecting some mondo dump of snow, many eBay sellers do UPS 3 day or priority mail type shipping as a default, tell him/her to ship lowest cost option
    - threaten to drop the sale unless he/she can come down in price. It's the cash flow time of the month and people want their money.

UPS was gonna charge me 50 bucks for the box and shipping. Went to the ski shop, got a box, went to the post office, and shipped it priority with insurance for under 20 dollars. Thats for some 193 XXXs
