    CO 14er Summit

In light of a few recent posts from "retard mountaineers" in here, maybe this can finally be a mountaineering thread in the summit forum that is not by retards, for retards.

Seeing as every summit is at a resort(and I hate resorts), and seeing the overwhelming popularity of skiing the 14ers last season, why not stage a get together for a large group 14er climb among the mags. I know its early, and we could never predict conditions this early in the season, and mountaineering is dictated by the weather at the time blah, blah, blah, but we can at least see if there is any interest in the idea and go from there.

If we wanna do this mid winter I vote for a route with an almost always stable ascent, such as Elbert, and plenty of options for mags to shred many different parts of the entire mountain. We could even do one tame mountain in the winter(such as Elbert or whatever anyone wants) and then in the spring when things stabilize a bit kick it up another notch and do a more serious mountain. What do you guys say? Maybe plan something tentatively for the 2nd or 3rd week of December and get a group winter descent in?

After we get some ideas of where people wanna go or not(in which case this thread will self destruct) I'll post a poll and we can see where we are at.

Since Elbert is in my back yard more or less, I could definitely be in for that one. With a sizeable group, low risk slopes would be of high importance.

Thats exactly what I was thinking too and why I suggested Elbert. If we get it together Id like to go up a few days before and set up the trail below TL as it is quite unconsolidated often and might need a few people to stomp it down and let it harden to make it quicker for the day of the climb.

That'd be cool. I'd do it. Need to ski Elbert anyway and it'd fun to do it with a bunch of maggots.

I'm interested. Sherman, Quandary, Bross and maybe Humboldt could have avy safe routes too.

I'm up for it. Seems like Elbert or Quandary would be the most accessible (and safe)

I would be in for something like this. I know Ms. Telechuck would dig it as well.

I would be a definite maybe, as long as it is before or after Dec 28 - Jan 4th.

Not that anyone would miss me. It does seem a little eary in the season, but why not. Anybody ever ski Elbert that early in the season?

Quandry could be a good option also, Cristo may not be safe but the front side perhaps.

Definitely interested here, pending I can slip away from the job during peak season.

While climbing/descending with a large group does pose certain inherent risks, doing so on a less technical peak sounds great....especially for those of us with less backcountry travel experience. Not to mention gettin' to ride with a bunch of mags...

    keep me posted please!

I think I'll be in CO at that time frame, but I am a total BC jong with no touring setup, so I'd be boot packing it. I would love to go though as skiing a 14'er was on my list of things to do and it would be great to do with people who actually know what they are doing/ could teach me some things.

Think about Mt. Bross, you can drive a decent way up buckskin road even in the winter, especially with a truck. It may not be the most teck decent, in places that is, but there are lots of fun features and old mining ruins to chill in. The north face of Democrat is super sick and has been intriguing me for some time now as well, not too ridiculous to get to from the Lincoln falls area. I'm back in Boulder this winter, but lived in Alma and Breck for years and know a thing or two about the snow and access up there, let me know. However, if thing keep up like they are, unless a miracle happens, there's not gonna be much skiing early season in the big CO, hope y'all like to rock climb and ride bikes as much as I do. Peace.
