I needed this thread(sorry for the threadjack, but i need to rant) im still recouping from surgury last night, Wierd bike wreck that ended up breaking both the knob deals on my ankle, after 15 block of riding on it, the adrenaline wore off...it did not feel good, Its just starting to sink in that my foot wont see a ski boot until the end of january and i was super stoked to ski yesterday, was dressed head to toe in ski gear and clicked into my spats in the livingroom, It's going to be a long couple months.
It was called the eighties, Ford was president, Nixon was in the white house, and FDR was running the country into the ground.

been dead had cpr, sprained both knees, tore both RCs, broke the left collarbone, messed up a hip, and who knows what else. Have yet to second guess my judgement. Rather, I think the experience helped me develop my instincts and know how to fall in a way that prevented many more injuries. .

Exclamation Damn, you all so core!

Hmn, a lot of "go big" here. Well, of course.

Please remember most all of us are recreational skiers, so, why not dial it back a bit, for a while?
DO NOT be afraid to hike/sidestep up&out of anything that gives you a bad feeling. No matter if someone's watching, or you disappoint others.
You might want to think about getting a full-face, or pads, or armor.

I bust my jaw & wrist, broke teeth & split lip, at Sugarbowl, in Jan '06.
Yes, I was skiing at Squaw within a couple of weeks, in my cast, with a face mask on, BUT, I was staying behind my wife, Cinders, mostly all the while, (you should try it, guys) and stayed on the groomers (well, until I noticed how soft it was off to the side. Just made Cinders go in first )
Yes, I did back out of a couple of steep places (Silverado & KT)

Good luck. Hope for better snow than last season

I crushed my achilles 2.5 years ago & it ended my season as well. I went through 8 months of hellish rehab & such. When I came back to ski that 1st time, I was more than a little nervous. Several people told me I'd never be the same & some even said I was foolish to ski so soon & that I'd re-injure myself.

It was a demo day at the Land & I saw this hot chick that I knew from a local ski shop. We rode the lift up & her presence calmed any nerves that I felt.It was a sweet pow day & they had just opened the terrain under 1.It felt a little weird at 1st because my boot didn't fit as well, but I was right back in the swing of things 5 turns in.There's a moral in here somewhere ,but I haven't a clue where.
    Calmer than you dude

Duker, there's a lot of good advice here. Go back out and ski with good technique. I need that advice myself. I broke my tib/fib in March. My tib with hardware is healing well, but I have a total non-union of the fib, so my knee and ankle stability are subnormal, and the repaired tib will have to do a little more work than it used to, without help from the fib. So of course I'm worried about that. I plan to be hyper-aware of terrain and conditions, and carefully control my speed at all times. I don't know yet exactly what my state of mind will be -- I'll find out in three months.

I'd go easy for a bit and assess from there. I had rotator cuff surgery
from a fall and I couldn't help but think about it until I had some confidence.
It didn't take long before I was being aggressive and asserting myself again.
