Question How do I sell my car if I can't find the title?

So I put my beloved Taco on CL and some dude came by to check it out, liked it and left a $1k deposit and will pick it up Friday.

Now I can't find the fucking title. Do I need to apply for a new one and wait for that to arrive or is there some way I can transfer it w/o the title?

Yes: I believe you have to apply for a new title from your DMV. Check online: you might be able to get it relatively quickly at the DMV.

Some states DMV's now have on line stations that can expedite the processing of the new title too or internet options to start the process. There are usually a set of title replacement forms that have to be sent in and fees involved along with things like a Vin number certification. Call your local state representative or senator's office for more details that would be another option. They many times can handle this with faster service by hand delivering to meet a deadline.

Otherwise- turn the house upside down- it usually is with some other papers (important or not.)

It wasn't in the glove box

I turned the house upside down.

The last place I saw it was at my LA pad and all my shit there is in storage now. Maybe I can charter a plane there to pick it up....

    ....Or NOT, on second thought.

People love to complain about how their congressmen don't do shit. Do you think asking them to go on a goose chase for your lost car title would:

    A: Add to this dilemma
B: Help? You know, overall in the big governmental picture

    or

C: Make you look like a lazy, disorganized turd selling a used truck who can't keep his shit together and needs to cry to daddy because he didn't feel like standing in line at the DMV? Nothing personal, but seriously...

Well in my state- I regularly drop off my license/registration whatever at the reps office. They send it off to their capital office and take it to the department needed, 1 day turn around usually and they have it back on day 3 (with a phone call to come and get it) or maybe 1 or 2 longer if there is a day the local rep's office is closed during the week.

I swear I've done this at AAA. The new title is like $14, but I'm pretty sure AAA can print it out. Line at Oakland DMV - if you get there by 8 AM they might see you by 11:30 AM. Line at AAA - if you get there by 11 AM they might see you by 11:06 AM.
