Any suggestions of where to set up the base camp for the weekend (for those of us who will be sleeping out under the stars).

For campground discussion and information click here. The RV Park in town and Sherwin Campground are both open.

Speeelat!!! I was just going to call around to find a condo. If you're already working on it, I'll hold off. Let's coordinate efforts.

Aside from the hot springs(which are quite a haul to get to), I think Glass Creek would be a good option. It's just north of the rest area right off the 395. It's free, has pit toilets, plenty of shade, easy to find when drunk, lots of sites to choose from, it's quiet, and so far this spring has been nearly vacant.

If memory serves me right, I don't think it's closer then the springs (except for the Little Hot Creek hot springs). It does have some facilities, though.. Haus - do they charge for 'em?

Wait a second.. is the back road open yet (the one from 1/2 way up the road out towards June)? IF it is, then Glass Creek is WAY closer.

Yeah, pretty much all of the roads should be open now. The Mammoth "Emergency exit" should be fully plowed (I believe it is all year).

Ok, at least it's hump day. I mean, where the hell is Friday already? I'd like to take this moment to proclaim my neverending problem = I live for weekends. I was talking to a co-worker yesterday just before lunch and said, "I can't wait til this weekend - it's going to be off the hook!" And she said, "You know, it's Tuesday. You have nearly an entire week yet. The weekend just ended." Ok, well, fine. At least I can spend my lunch hours going to the ski store to buy wax and ptex, and dream of taking off this Friday. Is this a problem? Am I wacked? The job is great (I have a review today...), but damn why is my mind always creating new or thinking about current weekend plans? [/random dialog for the day]

So, Glass Creek it is! Let's all meet there at 10pm-ish on Friday. Can't wait. Splat, you better show up and join the mayhem.

Because skiing kicks ass. Oh, and I tried to fit my old snake skins on your PR's and its a no go. Tip hook will not go around those big ass tips. Sorry.

I'm definitely in for a condo. I'm even willing to book one (I'm not a travel agent, but I play one on the Internet). I'm thinking a cheap 2 bedroom is the way to go. If someone else is already on this, let me know. If you want in PM me or something.

edit - started new thread instead.

The sad thing is that I know who you're refering to. Unfortunately, I don't get it. It must be something that dude would have said...

I might have some that she could use. I'll bring 'em and see.

I've got a pair of skins that might fit too. But the might also be a bit too wide and long (trimmed for 183 TDs). I'll talk to a buddy in the area that may be able to help out with a loaner pair.

So Glass Creek it is. I pretty sure we're thinking of the same springs, exit 395 at the airport and also down by the church? Then at least 10-15 minutes of washboard, dusty, dirt road route finding until the springs. I just feel that's a lot of work to get to an oftentimes crowded area where we most likely won't have our pick of spots.

Glass Creek is what...7 or so miles up 395 from 203 and takes 20 minutes to get to from the mountain. It's totally free, nobody's there, has pit toilets, and some tables and fire rings.

I am on jury duty for the rest of the week, so that means I don't have to pull my usual no sleep, Friday all-nighter. I get to drive up Friday afternoon like all the normal people and I plan on pulling in around 10 p.m.
