That settles it. This is the year I'm going to tick off "First Tracks At Deer Valley" from my list of things to do.

Did anyone ever see one of Ski's "rating cards"? I'm ashamed to admit that I've subscribed for a while, and I've never seen one.

DV #1 - get used to it.
That's one of the problems with Ski and their resort poll. It's the same people filling out the poll year in and year out. So, you get the same poll results year in and year out. I actually wrote to the editors and told them that their survey figures are stale and they needed to update their polling pool. IIRC, their response basically was, " yeah, we know but oh well." Besides Ski's demographics hardly fit the Maggot profile.

I think the vote is in the form of which resort spends the most on advertising in Ski magazine... just a thought.

It is just like when they do product reviews, if they get a free product to demo it turns out to be an ad more than anything else.

You name me ONE, just ONE, 5 star chief at Jackson! I dare you! See you can't, you know why??? Because all Jackson is about is powder, vertical, and steeps as if premium coffee and a good turn down service aren't their equals.
5 star chief? Is that a Volkl carver/K2 powder ski mix? It always amazes me what happens when one company buys another...

When quality and amount of the mountain groomed is a major component of the selection process one knows that these lists are useless as far as skiing goes. Ski valet services rank higher then gnar terrain.

This list is about "Resorts", that just happened to be associated with ski areas.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

Did you really expect anything different from the media, perceptions & people that are controlled ,& guided by it? This is like saying GW is an imbecile & how did he get voted into office. Expect greater strides in idiotic thoughts & behaviors from our residents,& the world at large as we move bravely into the new world order.

I think you mean *fewer* gapers. And is it really only 200 skiers per day? I would have though you were much more crowded than that. Maybe I need to visit.

That pretty much sums it up. Does anyone really expect Silverton or Mt.Baker to be on any list in Ski magazine? The last time I leafed thru an issue of Ski magazine (which, admittedly, was about ten years ago - so things may very well have changed) half the magazine was some supplemental featuring $500,000+ mountain real estate.

yeah...*fewer*....our biggest day last season, with a packed parking lot and cars parking allong the road, was 2000 skiers. Most weekdays there were way less than 50 cars in the parking lot.

Bingo. Money talks. If it is anything like Golf Digest, you could even find a statistical correlation between size/number of ads placed and ranking on the "Best Places to Play" list.

    Free market my ass.

    The list is P E R F E C T.

Let the SKI readers go to those resorts and not get drawn to where I ski. I don't need the longer lines and attitudes.

Yes, I agree with you. However, I have only skied at 4 of the resorts listed above, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.
