    Hey thanks for the advice!

I've grown a little tired of the job situation in SLC. I'm not advancing as I would in most jobs, and that is not due to lack of performance. I won't get into it.

I love the mountains here, but maybe it's time for the next chapter in my life. I've acomplished a lot as a skier, more than I ever had hoped when I moved here. And no way in hell would I stop skiing.

I've been looking at taking my role in engineering into the medical industry. Boston seems to be the place. I grew up in the midwest, and love the water. I will miss the Wasatch like one mourns a parent, but will have to deal with that part if I go. Backpacking in the East is pretty good, and I can always catch a plane for powder days.

My girlfriend also lives in Boston. If things keep going as they are, maybe someday she will be the Mrs. LCC and both of us have hopes of larger mountains, suck as AK or BC. Guiding has always sounded like a great gig to me, but maybe that's just a dream. So we shall see. But right now, I need a good job to pay off skiing debts and college loans. My salary will easily double moving back East, vacation time at least double, job responsibilities will increase most likely to management (what I've been interviewing for), and benifits would be great.

As it looks right now, I'd either be in Nashua or Northern Boston, close to the border. Being able to get out of the city is very important to me. Love to spend some time in Maine sea kayaking.

I do enjoy the city life as well, and look forward to a change there as well. A little culture might be nice, no religious culture.

Boston for me as well - lived here the last 8 years. Not much longer though, maybe. I'm looking into a transfer to my company's SLC office.

I'm going to nyc tomorrow but will be coming back up to ski mt wa(hopefully) sat. So I'll be passing through boston if anyone needs a ride...but you gotta get yourself back to boston. Unless there is something in boston worth me going back down for. Damn, I love four day weekends.

Schussfart, if you need some skis to crap around on I'm a 317 boot sole. If you can get to Mt Wa I'll bring em.

Very excellent. Knew I'd find some hospitality here eventually. Got a sick ex Crystal. Mt. WA snowboard instructor who would tag along. News at 11.

lots of great river kayaking up here too. If you end up in Nashua though, don't live in the damn city, there's a ton of places you can commute from that are very rural nearby. Also beware as Real Estate is currently at "arm, leg and firstborn" stage here.

i think we're uncovering some kind of conspiracy. my girlfriend's birthday is tomorrow, the big 3-0 as a matter of fact. [shudder] she was adopted from an orphanage in ireland, so maybe back then they just bulk-birth-dated a nursery full of kids all at once? somebody get paul harvey to find out the rest of the story!

your salary may double but your cost of living will triple along with your headache trying to commute to work. tell your girlfriend she should move to SLC instead.

Good point. Southern NH is where it's at if you want tons of land real cheap. But if you're working in Boston, the commute's a killer. I'm closer to the NH border but drive into the city everyday - get up at 5:30 to beat the traffic. It's not as bad as it sounds, though.

But I gotta stick up for Boston and New England. It's the best place to live in the country - great schools, hospitals, mountains, ocean, rivers, restaurants, clubs, theaters - you name it. We got it. There's never a lack of something to do around here.

land values in Southern NH have doubled or tripled in the past 5 years or so. Hard to find a deal these days with all the NY'ers and Massholes moving up here, especially after September 11.

    its funny because its true.

you'll see or meet some truly priceless characters on the MBTA trains or busses, though. my favorite: DJ Nighttrain. Anybody know who I'm talking about? The guy rides the B line frequently, carryiies a huge box of records, and pretends to spin mixes. He occasionally spices things up by yelling stuff like "Oh my! This mix is making me so hot!". Good times.

if it's going to be good, avie gear at least.

edit: shit, with so many folks interested maybe we should go anyway.

actually, it could be really really really really terrible up there if it freezing rains, then rains, then freezes.

    RAINEY DAY POLL:

    choose A or B

A: The best skiing in NA is a leisurely 30 min drive up a scenic canyon. You can ski neck deep powder on a regular basis. There is insane mtn biking at your doorstep. The weather is mildy pleasent. Your neighbors may belong to a religous cult, but they are freindly. The opportunity to drink your face off still exists. Culture is a plane trip away. You have a decent job that allows a compfortable lifestyle.

B: The worst skiing in NA is a traffic laden 3 hr trip on icey roads. Powder is 3 inches of pig snot. You can see how many times they will warranty your mtn bike after hucking to flat at Lynn. The weather is consistantly what you don't want. You have to drink your face off just to deal. Your neighbors are probably criminals. The MBTA has culture like a petrie dish. Your job pays you 6 figures which allows you to break even after you spend all your vaca time flying back to SLC to ski.

    hmm...excellent idea.

i have tomorrow off, but i want to deal with getting my jeep running asap, which may mean fucking iwth it tonight.

but i agree, a boston drinking summit at the least will be in order, if not skiing some surprise pow on mt WA or in the rain anywhere else.

pretty much anywhere in the city works for me. and i know basom's down.
