Rear Tire: Maxxis Minion vs. Highroller 3c

I am currently rolling High Roller super tacky tubless on my Prophet 1000. The rear tire is worn and in need of replacement. My wife is rolling Minions w/ tube on her 575. I like Maxxis tires. Both seem to climb pretty well on Utah's dusty dirt. The super tackys seem to wear quickly though. The 3c technology may wear better. Another consideration is a Kenda Navegal. I need a new tire and could use your input.

Minion in the maxxpro 60a compound. They last forever and slay it. The super tacky and 3C and slow reazzay are all super soft dh compounds and wear quick.

Minion DHF not DHR. The 3C should last longer than other soft compounds, but not as long as the 60a.

I agree with Minion DHF, used in the rear.

For a rear tire, sticky rubber is not really necessary unless you're riding snot-slick rocks and roots all the time. As you found out, sticky tires wear really fast. The 60A compound that Maxxis uses is plenty sticky for a rear tire. And it lasts.

Kenda Nevegal is basically a modified version of the Maxxis Minion DHF pattern. I like the Kenda tires but the sidewalls are not as thick as the Maxxis tires. The Kenda Nevegal 2.1 with a DTC tire compound will be a great alternative to the Maxxis Minion DHF. Kenda 2.1 is about the same size as Maxxis 2.35.

I have run the highroller in the rear and it rails turns and has great grip in cornering and rolls well on flats.

However, I think that tread pattern on the Minion R is better for technical ascents, especially stairs and rocky uphills. It grabs on to the edges and faces of rocks and accelerates well uphill when you need a burst of speed in technical terrain. I haven't found the Highroller to do this as well.

and lasts a bit longer cause the sipe in going with (parallel to) the trail, not across (perpendicular to) the trail.

i am super stoked on my dhf front and rear setup.
