People actually camping out for the biggest ski junk sale around. These retailers should ashamed, then again people are stupid enough to partake.

OK, I'll bite, why should the retailers be ashamed?
Don't you know that's early season training for I-70?
either that or they still think its GART Bros .49 cent sale the way it was years ago where everything was actually $.49.
Because they sell 2 and 3 year old crap equipment and pass it off as being the newest and best. The people they hire to sell equipment have no clue what they are doing and mislead people all the time. It's unfortunate because I have people tell me all the time that they got a great deal, then you look at the equipment and don't have the heart to tell them they got ripped off.
Having said that, occassionally they have a few good things, but not enough to spend my time camping out for days.
The article didn't even mention what the first ones in the door get. Don't they offer free ski passes to the first like 10 people or something.
If you are camping out for a few days just to get first dibs on the equipment then that's just plain stupid
Buying boots at Sniagrab is just a plain bad idea. Those employees know nothing about fitting boots."It's fun to hang out for a few days and relax," said Geisel, who is a bartender at the Cheesecake Factory. "I want to get some boots."
"Can't vouch for him, though he seems normal via email."
When I saw the title of this thread I thought for sure it was going to be a picture of these guys.

Don't they indicate on the price tag if the equipment isn't from the current model year? I'm all for buying slightly older equipment. Things don't change that much year-to-year. Anyway, I think it's pretty much caveat emptor. You should know going in what kind of equipment you're looking for. You can't really blame the shop for wanting to clear out old merchandise at a reduced price.
Bu, yeah, camping out days in advance for this is dumb.
Holy Shit,
I'm grabbing a sleeping bag and heading down there right now. All that intermediate skier gear at prices somewhat below full retail is exactly what I'm looking for!!!
Clearing out old merchandise is one thing, buying 5 year old gear that has been sitting in some wharehouse in Jersey for pennies on the dollar, and then pawning it off for 10x's what they paid as this blowout deal on new stuff is a completly different thing.
It is a place that if you know what you are looking at and for, deals can be had, but true deals are few and far between.
I actually worked the sniagrab sale back in the late 90's. Made alot of money in a few days and got the hell out. If anyone know's what a "spiff" is, this is the place for it. I made over 2k a weekend. I actually knew a pretty good amt about the equipment too.
They always had the reps come in and give us a clinic for all of their products. It was pretty gay cause the reps were a bunch of tech wienies who never got out and actually used any of the gear.
There were plenty of people around who knew their shit but there were definitely some who didn't know jack shit about bootfitting. Myself included.
With all that said, you can find a few good deals on opening day but after that it's a bunch of gaper gear just like what gart's sells the rest of the year. I doubt anyone who frequents this board would find much worth buying at these sales besides a cheap pair of goggles and a bar of wax...
