Thumbs down Berthoud Pass: USFS Final Plan details (FIRE)

Well I've known for a week... kept waiting for FoBP types to post it... but hte final USFS plan calls for the lodge to be burned soon with no outs. Fuck them. Mr. Garst is still fighting hard against it and has been in the paper a lot... need to find links.

    Cue Pinner for details:

We've known for several months that the current lodge was coming down. Hell, I coulda told you that a year ago.

Last week the USFS held an open house to discuss their draft assessment of Berthoud Pass. We'll be sending out an update in the next few days to our members. We have until April 9 to submit comments and are interested in adding any thoughts from our members on the issue.

I'll try to get the document posted to saveberthoud.org in the next few days. Anyone got a scanner near 80211?

honestly don't know how I feel about this issue ? On the one hand I would love to see Berthoud once again open with some type lift service, like the simple co-op supported rope tows we have often discussed here. My guess is the presence of the lodge would make this slightly easier to get done. On the other hand if this is not really feasible, I wouldn't mind seeing all traces of the old operations removed. Mainly because I think it gives BC gapers a false sense of security about the dangers of the terrain they are about to "shred". So come next fall when the snow starts to fly my only real want is for serene pow filled turns at Bert... lodge or no lodge.
