    Shipping a pool table?

My roommates and I are looking for a pool table here is San Fran. We have seen some decent stuff on craigslist but nothing amazing. My parents live in Raleigh, NC and have a pool table sitting in the garage in boxes/crates from their last move. The table will not be used in NC and is just collecting dust. This table is in great shape and is much nicer than the tables we have seen on craigslist in our price range.

Is it possible or reasonable to ship it across the country? I have no expirence with this kind of thing. Speed is not an issue, can I ship it over a few weeks? The table probably weights ~600lbs.

Our budget is around $800, is this worth looking into?

There has to be a decent local table you can get for that price. SF is a pretty big city, I'd say just keep looking.

try the moving section of craigslist- there might be someone with some extra room heading cross country.

if that fails, a super-large catapult might do the trick

uship.com might help, but it would probably cost more to ship than to buy a new one

One of the moving companies, such as Allied, could probably fit it in.

I looked it up on UPS for giggles, guessing on dimensions and the such and they gave me this:

    Detailed Charges

    Air Freight 3,801.40
    Oversized: 1,140.42
    Residential Pickup: 40.00
    Fuel Surcharge 677.95
    Residential Delivery: 40.00
    Total: 5,699.77

ABF might be an option, or any other freight company.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

There are a ton of tables in the SF area just like the one in NC, sitting in a garage collecting dust. Start looking in the local rags and you can find one.

Call an LTL trucking company and tell them you have some freight you want shipped. Your table is class 85 and give them the weight and dimesions. The NMF classification is item number 15770. I would start with yellow or Roadway since time is not an issue. ABF is also another option. You could also call Cal State Express in Oakland and see what kind of rate they would give you. That is our delivery agent for the bay area.

You're lucky to get 10mpg with a Uhaul and gas is a bit more expensive in several places along that route (especially near CA)...so that increases the $355 to $785 with 10mpg and $2.75/gal. Might just want to check craigslist for a pool table...
