A Look at A-Basin's New Montezuma Lift

My friend and I biked up the A-Basin Service road to the Lenawee Trail. Here is a preview of the new Montezuma Lift. The main parts of the lift are complete. All that's left is to put up the tower's and the cabling. The towers are being staged in the parking lot. My pics don't do the new terrain justice. Can't wait for snow.

My only concern is the affect on the front-side side-country access. Now that every tom, dick, and mary will know where the gate is.....

you mean where the FOUR gates are

    The gates will be:
At the bottom of Zuma Bowl (NEW)
Top of the E ridge (as before)
Top W ridge for the Beavers (kind of like before, but easier)
Lower down W for the Beavers (NEW for fingers maybe maybe maybe?)

We all know that, but I hope they at least put up some signs telling people that they shouldn't just follow strangers out through the gates with no gear or knowledge.

Since you are so hard core, you ought to stand at those gates and show people the way down. I'll be looking for you. How much do you charge?

God forbid someone be concerned for another man's well-being.

Hmmmmmmm... is this the next Loveland Chair 9? I think I just made up my mind about keeping my 5-mountain pass.

I never thought it would, but maybe people with a brain will re-think what they are doing.

Personally, I don't like skiing back there with a pack of 5 idiots following and skiing above me and my friends.

Ha! This is such a Summit County thread. One guy is correcting the original poster, and another is claiming how "hard core" Summit is!

Have you not noticed that it's a tad gaped-out over there????

Is the lift scheduled to be up and running by, say, January?

Absolutely not. I love A-Basin. And Vail. And Beaver Creek and Keystone. Due to some unexpected events, I may end up actually needing some money.

Haha is an inappropriate name. I don't think it's funny what a tool you have shown yourself to be. Just unfortunate.

If the skiing's good, who cares how "gaped out" it is anyway? Why you so concerned about what other people are doing, or waering, or whatever "gaped out" means? Just shut up and ski, or don't.

The front side country is so big that I'm not worried about the impact from a more visible gate. More people skiing in the steep gullies is a good thing and it would be nice not to duck a rope to get there. The beavers will continue to be tracked out down in the drainage. As for the rockpile, that was being skied more heavily the last couple of years than I can remember from before.

    That's my $.02 anyway.

Thanks for the pics - interesting.

There should be someone at the top of that bowl handing out shin pads.
