Wow! Those drawer pulls are pretty impressive. You ever thought about selling this stuff? People would pay serious cash for that. "Upcycling" is all the rage these days apparently, and your project blows away any other upcycled furniture I've ever seen.

Wow !! Thanks !! Yeah, those drawer pulls were a lot of fun to create. The cool part is that they will start to soften up and get a patina on them and eventually get a bit darker. There is a local guy that did the stitching for me who shares a studio space upstairs where I make my stuff. If anyone wants a cool handmade wallet with laser engraving, check him out at www.raphaelqualitygoods.com I brought him the leather and metal rods. Once I get the the process down a bit more, I may look into doing selling one or two. Shipping would not be an option.
What if "Alternative" energy wasn't so alternative ?

Made the drawers out of beetle pine then milled the bottoms into slats out of some fir and cedar that I had found in an alley in East Van.

I decided to use cherry for all my drawer fronts. They were rough cut ends I bought from the lumber store in 4 foot sections. Wood was pin to work with and I would never use rough ends again. too much waste and alot of planing.

My drawer pulls are custom to me. I designed them using some pretty beefy vegtan leather and some aluminum rod laying around. I had the rod cut and then the leather stitched tight round the rod.

To attach the pulls, I hand chiseled out a slot in the drawer front. After sliding the pull in and out the back, I used a hard fir wedge and jammed it in between the two leather tabs out the back. Then chiseled and sanded flush. No glue. This is the detail on the back of the door and drawer. No one will see it unless you look inside the door, but I thought it would look cool.

Tops and side are made from hot rolled steel cut to size. They are 1/4 inch steel and weigh a lot. My guess is the whole unit weighs about 300 lbs. Welded ready rod onto the insides of the panels allowed me to attach the carcass to the outside steel. Top piece basically sits on the top with 4 guide posts.

Having never installed drawers before, it was definitely one of the biggest challenges for me. Lining up the boxes and then screwing the plates on. A carpenter I am not and I sure got frustrated a few times trying to get the gaps equally spaced.

I am going to make another one but a bit smaller and lower. A true credenza and not a dresser.
If you don't like what you're doing for a living now you might want to reconsider jobs, I could see that going for @ 5 grand

^ dig the dresser for sure.

Here's a thought... a potential buyer of something similar might appreciate an elegant way to cover the bottom edges of the steel sheet for floor protection... maybe a dado-grooved piece of the same wood? The simple look is nice, though.

Holds about 950 pairs of flat skis. It's part of an upcycling effort I am involved with...

It's not quite done, but it's close enough for now, and time to start the fun.

Finished in chalkboard paint so we can mark routes/problems. It's about 14' wide and 16' high. The swinging barn-style garage doors still work, though just barely with the added weight. Doesn't matter, those doors are almost never used. Fall protection is provided by an old futon pad, and some bouldering crash pads.

Dumb question here but what do you do with 950 pairs of skis?

Keep them out of landfills by selling them for various projects. We sell to folks making furniture, coat racks, limbs for bows, runners for sleds & roping dummies. I use some to make my ReRax baskets (see my signature line)

Bunk bed for two boys, aged 3 and 0. Although currently hosting the big sister, 6, up high until the baby grows to age 2 or so and the boys share their room.

    Cedar logs for posts.
    Cedar frame.
    White pine 1x4 mattress slats.
    Bamboo rails.
OSB with cedar back-framing for support... will eventually host climbing holds. Will also be replaced in 5-7ish years when the kids get bigger. Cheap and temporary ver_1.

All lag-bolted to wall studs. Shake proof.

*More pics with climbing holds being used in the future.

Ha! Yup! That's what I mean.

Also, being as it's going to have climbing holds to accompany those full-sized logs on the corners, I predict it'll be more of an indoor jungle gym that happens to sleep two than a mere bunkbed. ;-) At least, that's what I'm aiming for. My daughter is already requesting holds on the ceiling. /how-did-I-not-think-of-that?

Been a busy summer trying to knock out some projects. Started when we got new town cruiser bikes. Instead of slapping an old milk crate on the rack, I took some scrap wood and built a couple of boxes. This one is walnut and I did another out of maple for the missus.

Last fall we got a hot tub. Spent October building the bluestone foundation. Didn't like the ugly plastic sides of the tub so I wrapped it in cedar to match our fence.

And with the hot tub we needed an outdoor shower. More cedar.

Nice work, Flounder. Amazing what a little wood will do to class things up... Now I have to build an outdoor shower!
