Code isn't the right word, I guess. Shakken. 車検 It doesn't translate well. All vehicles have to be OEM (original or exceeding manufacturer) Kind of like a California smog check on steroids. Also, around 12-15 years the taxes on older cards get so substantial that it's cheaper to buy new (especially once you factor in advancements in fuel economy.) The Gov't forces the public into new cars to "stimulate the economy."

I'm guessing your rig would run an additional 5K in taxes each year. No joke. Only collectors keep projects around. It's a sad state of affairs for me. I built my rig stateside, a '72 Blazer. Grew up wrenching. Tricking out old cars are a hobby I just can't financially justify anymore.

Wanna be my importer stateside for used (yet OEM) JP cars? I have heaps of them. Most go to Australia/NZ/Singapore. (non-horsepower freaks.)

JDM (Japanese domestic market) cars are a bitch to import to the States.... But not Canada if you are serious about it consider exporting them to Canada.

I love that wine rack, Boissal. I also had a boot dryer similar to that in my truck back in the day. I took an extra heating element and fan from anther rig, ran radiator coolant lines and pulled double-duty moving engine heat into the truck via a box like that with hoses for gear. Sleeping in parking lots was comfy.

Thanks. Yeah, a shit ton of half-laps. Half way through I was rethinking my design on that, but glad I stuck it out. The plates & hardware were made by a buddy. There are plates on both sides bolted through the beam & cheek plates - it was a pain in the ass to drill straight holes through 11" timber.

'Staining' it with TWP natural, which will basically make it look like it's wet. I'm not a fan of the weathered gray look, but have to say that I like the amount of work it takes to achieve it ...

The TWP stains seem to be the only product out there that has a wood preservative. I'm also adding some 'bug juice' to keep the damn wasps from eating my deck! Somewhere they're building a nice cedar nest.

He just turned 16. So now he and his friends drive to the store for materials...which is nice

First sk8 he built was around 10-11 yrs, then he took some time off. He started back up a couple yrs ago and has built several since. Of course it costs almost twice $ to build them then it does to buy one...until he figures out how to build trucks and wheels...then it will be 4x what you can buy it for

If I wanted to cut a bunch of skis for a chair or bench and was somewhat DIY challenged, what would I use to cut the skis? I have successfully used a handsaw with a blade for metal but that seems a lot of work. I have at my disposal two circular saws (table thing with integrated saw), one of which I could technically destroy and a chainsaw, which would be required to survive the process. There seem to be metal chain saw blades? Would that make sense?

A bandsaw would be best, but either a circ saw, or a regular hacksaw would get the job done. Do not use the chainsaw!

For cutting skis, this will give you perfectly square cuts and do it faster and safer than anything. It's $75 at Harbor Freight. I've witnessed several ski chairs constructed and own one that was made this way...

Why am I laughing?... the mental anguish is palatable! If it makes any difference, I just grabbed this when googling "chop saws". 1st one that came up and for only $75, what could go wrong?

And use a dremel?... You could walk to China and make your own saw in the same amount of time it would take to "dremel" a "bunch of skis"...

the dremel was for the hardened edges (or something abrasive - and not a regular wood saw) - it's kinda quick with a dremel. then you use a table saw to cut through the rest of it. Or a handsaw. Or whatever that's quicker. without buying tools for accessorizing your yuppie lifestyle. I was just trying to help; kindly go fuck yourself BD
