Suggestions for a good camera bag for skiing

Hi,

After all these years of carrying my camera bag in my backpack, I finally decided into looking if there was a better alternative than skiing, stoping, removing my backpack, getting camera bag out, getting camera out, taking picture... (well you get the picture - enough to drive the skiing partners wild. I've also ski with my camera under my arms, but not necessarily safe postition for the camera and practical to ski with all day.

Maybe 10 years ago I saw for photographer at Lake Louise with a front pack that seemed specialy made for cameras. I went looking a bit, but no one seem to know want I'm talking about. They referred me to a slingshot bag, but it doesn't look like as practical as the one I recall seeing.

Opinions or suggestions?

Lowe pro makes one that doesn't have a harness - use two biners on top and one on the bottom (to keep it from smacking you in the face), all hooked to your backpack shoulder straps, and you are good to go - the harnesses are just more crap wrapped around your body, you don't need em.

Not sure if I'll have time to buy for this coming trip next week (I've seen the LowePro one at the camera shop I know today), I just need to get my shit together. Camera bag is at the bottom of my list.

Yeah- I've been waiting for this. Please get us the purchase info ASAP. I need a new bag, and I want the day pack- Lotus I think. Looks sweet.

I use crumpler bags, but rarely take the digi SLR skiing, compact only, losing 2000 wouldnt be good, less impact on 400

It's not digital.

Call me a fool. (I prefer being call a purist)

I've had my Minolta for over 21 years. Skied a good numbers of days during trips with it.

wouldn't the sequence also involve taking the pack off to get out the camera? I just bought one, and it's most certainly a sweet camera pack, (and I do intend to ski with it), but won't it be just as difficult as what MPS is trying to avoid?

Did you buy it in town or online?

If you already have it, how big is the inside? Is it designed for SLR sized still cameras, or could I make a decent sized HD video camera work?

edit to add:

Just went and pulled the trigger on a Sequence since I have to bring my camera to campus everyday this semester. My HDR-FX7 fits like money, with spare batts, wide-angle lens, tapes, and other various goodies with room to spare.

I have the same Lowe Pro as YesISaidYes, works awesome. I use the harness that Lowe makes, keeps it real snug if you're skiing hard. I dropped a sixty footer last year and it stayed put. But I like the binder idea, easier to take off. They also make larger ones if you have a long lens.

Also, if you wear inside your puffy or whatever helps keep the battery warm, holds the charge all day even in sub-zero temps.

Currently the sequence is the only way to go for a mass produced bag.... However there is a new company bringing some pretty inovative designs to the table in the next 6 months.......

Personally I use a custom modified Osprey pack with full access via the back panel...... This is by far the most stable camera pack I have ever used as it has a true full harness that is actually designed to cary weight. The sequence is the second baset skiing pack that I have ever used...

Lowepros are pieces of shit. They ski like shit, and they fall apart easily...for the price there horible.

the modified Osprey that grant has is pretty much the exact same thing that the f-stop packs are interestingly enough.

that lowe pro sling bag is the way to go if that's what you are looking for. bunch of friends ski with it, they love it.
