To live is to learn - re: cheating death in Rogers pass

Thanx again for the support. I'm referring to splat's post where you can find the detailed story.

I should be able to get back into the gym in four weeks. A quick heal but proper is the plan.

If you did have any comments on the tale concerning practice or safety or anything I'd love to hear it. I've had some harsh comment and critizim, they help. Might as well learn as much as possible from this.

So far I've come up with this :

    - climg what ya wanna ski ( or get the best look possible
    - never underestimate the mountain
    - don't mess with your sluff specially if you relativly new to a snow pack.
    - expect the unexpected
    - have a evacuation plan well established.
    - have a large enough group to be able the evacuate a immobilised member.

    and most importantly :

I've realised how important it is to know the risks, accept them before every outing. As long as you understand them fully and are ok with that you are at least being honest with yourself. It helps the moral recouvery fore sure.

Some of those thoughts occurred to me (particularly 1 and 3), but I didn't feel the time was right to bring them up (was just glad you were okay).

Big kudos to you for posting this message, for taking the criticism in the right light and trying to grow from it. That is almost as manly as the experience you endured.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and yay for Gorillo - now let him have it),

While you might have gotten some constructive criticism on some of those points, to you credit you were able to do what most people would not have been able to, you got yourself out. You did not panic and start reaching for the cell phone to get choppered out. Instead, you had enough sense to rescue yourself. Well done.

Most of the BC in BC is out of radio range so a cell phone is dead weight. Depending on where you are you can check in/check out with park rangers or RCMP and they'll look for you if you're late.

Glad you made it out alive Phil.
