    Skin Selection

I have done the search, and know this has been discussed.

But - I am just looking for confirmation before I put down my money.

I have THA 187 - 138 tip, 128 tail. I assume I would be looking to buy the 130 mm wide skin. Correct?

Also, any issues with the the tail clip in a twin tip?

You could even use like a 110mm if you wanted to. It just wouldn't cover the ski from wall to wall at the tips and tails. When you ski, most of the pressure is under your foot anyway so coverage up there isn't necessarily needed. But I use 130mm for my ANTs anyway.

BD clipfix suck for twins. STS is the only way to go.

STS or G3 rat-tail.... Also 120mm should still work.

If you have some tip loops or are strapped for cash, try climbingskinsdirect.com. They have an inferior attachment system but are much cheaper. If you are going with BD, avoid clipfix like the plague.

So, just because I'm a total skin JONG and the BC.com sale is currently on...

For the 188 Bros (125 tip, 99 waist) -- 100mm, 110mm, 120mm? And attachment suggestion? From the above, it sounds like a 100 or 110 BD STS is the way to go, but...

Get the 120's because they are cheaper than the rest of the comparable widths. I just ordered the 120mm for my Goats.

meh, clipfix works fin. So does the G3 attachment style. Anything within 20mm of the tip width will be fine.

Unless majority of the skinning will be on hard surfaces and steep switchbacks (ie. spring ski-mountaineering), the correct way to size a skin is the tail wideness minus 5mm. This will have almost full wall-to-wall coverage on most of the ski, basicly only a small part of the tip won't have wall-to-wall.

If you'll ski predominantly on hard sufaces, get the skin according to the widest part of the ski (minus 5mm).

Well, I'll be -- the 120 Ascensions are, in fact, $108.43 vs. $149.95 for the 110s. I'd been thinking GlideLite, but maybe not.

    Thanks, guys.

Any suggestions regarding the STS vs. the Custom skin? What is the difference, for this JONG?

Customs are sold with a length cut.

You want Accensions, with the STS or Standard and buy and STS Kit.

I would recommend the 120s like Alpinedad got and you will be happy. Price is right too.

Oh, this is what I have too, 120 Acc Sts.

I dont think wall to wall skins are necessary... they are heavy and dont glide well. I am a big fan of straight skins for Price, simplicity, and Glide.

What I recommend is buying a skin that is 5mm less than the width of your ski's Waist. So for Example I have a pair of Blue Noodles dimensions are something like 125/90/120 ... I use 85mm Straight Skins and they work great. At 85mm they are just narrow enough to not cover up my edges, and the Waist is obviously the narrowest part of the Ski...so no skin trimming is necessary!!

I have never had a problem with my skins slipping before they should (all skins will slip when the track is steep enough) and when I need to skin up something super steep I use Ski Crampons. The best part is that having a 85mm skin versus a 110 or 115 (had I gone with Wall to Wall skins) is that they glide much better and dont weigh nearly as much. Of course it goes without saying that an 85mm skin is going to be much cheaper than a 110mm or 120mm
