I did indeed. Got there noonish Friday, scored a campsite right by where they first check tickets, then ended up crashing in the truck both nights in the parking lot. Really enjoyed the opening act, then went to the cerveza tent to work off the ticket. Got slammed [with bizness] there, but got to listen to the Wilders and Yonder. Bunch of the folks from the local band Slidepath were jammin in the campground, hung out there til laaaaate.
Early start to Saturday, so psyched about them having showers for the first time! Caught up w/old patroller buds from Big Sky, Eddie G, Pippster, etc in the am, waiting til 930 for first drinkie. Martha Scanlon rawked, i thought, lots of talent up there with her. Hope she comes back this winter. Funny how she admitted to being a salad maker at the Trap years back...
Loved Tony Trishka's Beatles medley, and of course the John Hartford. Didn't know he had played the fest years ago...Missed some of Seldom Scene, too busy bullshittin with superpinner Bryan and wife Amy & kid, fresh in from a move from Sugar House to Bozo. What I heard was...ok, a rehash of their old stuff. Only one original picker left, might be time to let a good thing wither on the vine...Kane's River kicked it, one of the tighter bands of the weekend, imho.
Grisman was amazing, never seen him before. Cracked up when he introduced one tune as the song that starts Car Talk! Sure was though. And then came Sam.
Sam Bush. Band.
FKNA, this is where is started getting a little fuzzy. Chick next to me distracted me. Gorgeous cougar with DD's, pickin up a 24 yo, dancing w/him, hugging etc. Could see it coming tho, end of the show, she told him to get lost. Supertease! lol.....but i digress. [DD's were unimpeded tho]
Sam Bush. Band.
Good warm up of a lot of their stuff, one with a time signature I could not fathom. Maybe 5/4 in hindsight. But I digress.
Their cover of White Bird, by It's a Beautiful Day, was incredible, as it was at the Moose last winter. He's got the fiddle work on that one DOWN. Then their version of Jean Luc Ponty kicked butt. Never heard a band try to cover him before.
And..............how about Zep's Whole Lotta Love!!?!!!!?!!!!!!
Holy freakin rockgrass! Bass player's voice, after mucho synthisizers, sounded great, and Sammy's electric mando ripped the lead. That blew the doors off the place! Lots of talent up there on the encores, but it SUCKED that half the mikes didn't work for the solo's in the first song, but at least they fixed 'em for the 2nd. Then to the Trap.....some silverback being friendly....faded fast.
Skipped Sunday.
Looking forward to next year!!
Schwerty make it?
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.
Patterson Hood of the DBT's
