    Boots on the Internet

So it's the summer after a bad season and suddenly there's all sorts of nice gear popping up on the interweb.

How bad is it to buy boots of the web - plug boots at that? I know I'm obviously going to have to take them to a fitter and pay for that. How much should I expect to pay to have a set of plugs made all nice and comfy (relatively)?

And what size shell coincides with a 301mm bootsole?

    Thanks

There is nothing wrong with buying plug boots on the interweb. It's not like they are gonna fit without some work anyways. A 301 should be a 26.5, i think in an atomic. Dobies run 304 and rossi/langes run 305, IIRC.

We just bought some boots on the web. Had them shipped to NZ so we were committed and had to get the size right. I think you should at least know you're size in the brand you're buying and then obviously go through the fitting process when they arrive. Also watch out for boot lasts changing from year to year. You may not be the same size you used to be in a particular brand. I know Lange have changed a few times in the last 5 years.

    Good luck,

most stores will fit the boots they sell for free, so sometimes the deal is not as much of a deal after paying for the work, and still not having the right boot.

and sometimes it is a great deal.

just make sure you know what you are doing with the shell fit.
in general, you can make a small boot bigger, and a stiff boot softer, So buy small and stiff.

salomon X2 lab boots on ebay for $200. most sizes still

If you know your foot type, and know what fits, the on-line is an option. I have easy to fit feet, and know Garmont's fit me well, so I bought my AT boots as a killer deal. I bought my Lange alpine boots from a shop, and needed some tweaking, which is all free, and was the better deal.

If you have no clue which is the right boot, go to a good boot fitter and have it done right. Painful boots are no fun.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
