peruvian andes question

over the weekend i got a fortune cookie. the wise words imprinted on the little strip of paper said "you are going to travel somewhere far away" - and i always like it when fortune cookies tell me what to do - so im making plans now.

well now seriously i have some time between jobs and $$$ burning a hole in my pocket. im going to SA! i chose peru because i love surfing, and one of my favorite waves is there, chicama. anyway i would like to spend some time trying to ride something in the peruvian andes. peakbagging is not a real concern, i just want to go and check it out.

i have been researching like mad but i just wanted to hear if any of the good folks here had any suggestions, or experience in that region.

The skiing kinda sucks, but the Mt. Biking is off the hook.
Lots of disintigrated glacial snow, crevasses, and general crap.
Not much powder.

Where were you thinking, Huaraz/Cordillera Blanca?
