I recently went to a slide show/book signing that Jim Tabor gave for his most recent book, "Forever on the Mountain". It details the 1967 Wilcox Expedition up Denali, where 7 of the 12 climbers died while a 17 day blizzard hammered the mountain. There was a tremendous amount of blame immediately placed on the 24 yo leader (Joe Wilcox) following the tragedy, the lion's share of which started with Brad Washburn, who painted Wilcox as horribly underqualified to lead. Tabor set out as an independent investigator to determine whether that was the case.
I think this is a great read and is very well researched, and tells a completely different story of that expedition and the failures of the NPS, among others.
Anyone read this?
