    boot fitters

I have the five year itch. It seems that people swear by Ski Net Sports in L.A. It looks like I'll have an appointment next week. Any experiences with this shop? Suggestions on new technologies or things I need to be concerned with aside from getting a good fit?

no idea on them, but get a 1cm shell fit in length and 1mm in width. foot beds are great for most people, most of the time.

ya the boots will feel too tight, thats fine.

I would wait and get them fit in Mammoth. Footloose has a good rep, but I have used Kittridge myself. The reason for doing it on the hill is that you can have them adjusted, then go ski them, go back readjust, et cetera. Kittridge has a fit guarantee, and will adjust the boots as necessary for no charge.

Cordy. I believe he's the owner, and I'll second the comment that he's good. In fact, I think I'm going to get some foam liners from him this season.

I took stuff to Claude when I was living in L.A., but I never had him do any bootfitting. I will say that every single time I went in there, he was helping somebody with boots and he was very hands on and very attentive to that person. It seemed like he knew his shit and was only there to serve whoever he was doing boots for.

Here is a tip DONT BUY SKI BOOTS FROM FLAT LANDERS -
I use to work at the Surefoot in Squaw so of course I am going to say to go there but if you want a good fit just find a bootfitter who knows their shit and trust them.

My only personal experience with SkiNet was getting a boot repaired. I had blown out the ankle rivet on my boots, and they were so old and trashed that most places just looked at them and laughed (I was too broke for new boots). Claude gave me a lecture on upgrading, but did in fact fix the boots.

A number of friends have gone to him and had a variety of experiences. One of my friends swears by him (I believe Arty50 is also in this camp). However, another friend was actually banned from his shop after a layaway plan misunderstanding. He has a reputation as the "boot nazi" (much like the soup nazi from Seinfeld, his does a great job fitting, but you get fit his way, or not at all).

I think it is best to buy at the hill, as many have said it is easier to get adjustments done there. Like Mt. Lion says go for one finger and one mm width- you can make a small boot big but you can't make a big boot small.
If you like the boots you have, let the bootfitter know why- they will know what to do. There will always be some pain/soul searching when you do this. The more days you ski the sooner all the problems will be worked out.
    Good luck.

Claude is a Boot Nazi for sure. But he stands by his work.I skied my boots for a season then brought them back in to tighten up my packed out heels.Free of charge for the life of the boots. No nonsense with him though. He does it his way for sure.I would go back to him again.

    Thanks guys.
I understand the advantages to getting work done on the mountain but I plan on spending the majority of my year flying to ski and going to someone an hour from my house seems like a better idea then a shop six hours away.
From everything I can gather, he seems to be the go to guy in the area. I've watched footloose do a fit, read their amazing boot reviews on their site and have had an overall great experience with their shop.

anything as far as new aspects of boots that I should be looking for? I'm thinking 110-130 stiffness depending on the make/model. sound about right?

    Tech talk bitch!

No experience in LA. Kevin left footloose last year to go to Portland although the guys in the spring said that he may be coming back. He is who has done all the work on my dobie's and my frankenride touring boots.

Too cool for Mammoth this year eh?
He who has the most fun wins!

Tons of FF miles and free places to stay in CO. Also the passes are cheaper, it will take less time to get there and i figure since I didn't buy a pass at MM that you guys will return to having a normal snow year. So you can go ahead and thank me any time.

I still plan on making frequent trips to mammoth, just not quite like last year.

I'll third the rec. for Claude. I dropped a pretty penny there a couple years back, and my feet aren't complaining. Yes, he can be a boot nazi, but he knows his shit and carries a wide enough selection to fit almost everyone. I would go back again if I still lived in LA.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I have a pair of Salomon Course (Stiff Race) boots that I bought on Craigslist a couple seasons back. They were a miracle for my skiing, but murdered my feet. I took em to Claude the beginning of this past season. He worked on them for ~3 hours, and damn if they aren't perfect. My feet feel better after a day in my ski boots than a day walking around in my street shoes.

My girlfriend is going tomorrow to get some ski boots at Ski Net, so I will let you know if anything has changed. I would normally agree with the people saying get it done at the mountain, but everything I have heard and witnessed first hand makes me believe Ski Net is the best place for SoCal people to get boots.

I plan on keeping my boots until they won't work anymore, and then going back to Claude for my next pair

Cordy is the man at footloose. One of the best in the country.
    Go see him.
I've gone back after not seeing him for months and he took the time to make adjustments (blowing out my shell by the big toe) and didn't even charge me. I gave him a good tip anyway.
