TR: Beartrap Canyon-Kitchen Sink and some cartwheeling, 7/14/2007

Saturday was another scorcher here in Montana so off we go to the Madison River and the Beartrap Canyon. The flow was at 2000 cfs, we were hoping for more but it still provided some good play spots and the rapids were rocking.

    Attendees:

    Powderfin
    BB RidgeKid
    Dam Republican
    John the Running Man
    Tim

Between rapids the playspots are numerous.

And the ever famous Kitchen Sink Rapid-more carnage and deaths have happened here than anywhere on our local rivers.

    The Rapid.

    nice dude, great pics.

closest i have ever come to dying was taking an inner tube through the kitchen sink.

about the second time i got recirculated through i realized that was a REALLY bad idea.

Nice pics! Is this Bloody Knuckles, where MT Surf says "a crazy hole that forms on the face of a rock"?

    Fun video.

That rapid definitely got my attention when I first started paddling and lived in Bozeman.

Nice roll there DR, looked solid. Damn, C1'ing looks awkward..no clue why you guys prefer that style.

I think we should hit it again on Saturday. Republican, Cham, Ridge Kid up for it? I could be persuded otherwise if there is another river within reasonble distance with water in it.

im up for anything, went for a solo on the gally this evening an beat the hell out of my knuckles and elbows, i guess that is better than my ugly mug. but the gally is playing decently with the formation of some new holes that are very sticky (read multiple underwater recirculations, though i was dicking around) damn it was hot today and tomorrow is sposed to be hotter, we need to cool off...

Hey at least we got him out of the whitewater canoe. He still may see the light

DR has good skills for just getting his roll down, hitting a roll thru the Sink was very cool. I was right behind him on that run-had a big old smile when he hit it. A swim there would not have been fun!

I think it's a no go for me - same f------ project. The Kid will be up I'm sure.

    Root,
Not sure where Bloody Knuckles is but there are plenty of oppurtunities to get some.

Were those shots from the bank or the water? Looks pretty good.

The play pics were taken from the closest eddies I could get to and the Sink shots were from a boulder on the edge of the rapid. I kind of like the perspective shooting from the kayak.

Lexi- sounds like you hit a good flow. My son and friends went last weekend and got it at 3400cfs. Last year we got on at over 4 grand-maybe we'll see that again this year.
