    ski boot flex

can someone fill me in about ski boot flex? i find the solomon 1O8O boots some of the most comfy boots out there, but they literally fold under me at a flex of 85, is there a such thing as a too stiff or flexy boot? or is it like a soft and hard bed and not matter just as long as the boot fits properly?

the 1080 boot was a softer boot built on the x-wave platform. about 80 or 85 flex.

the x-wave platform has been replaced by a new line, so you can prolly find a sweet deal on the x-waves. if those 1080's fit well, check out a stiffer flexing x-wave. 10's are the stiffest, and a pretty money boot for relatively wide feet.

x-wave 10s now half off from sierra jim's.
mine arrived the other day--way uglier than they used to be if you care, but I love the boot.

    hey marshall:
do you by any chance know what the flex rating is for the rossi power 90?
i can't find it anywhere...and while i don't assume you have an encyclopaedic knowledge of every single piece of gear out there, i thought i'd start with you...
    thanks

Is there any universal flex rating? My Guns are rated 95 - can you compare that to a 95 in Nordicas, Rossis, Technica etc.? Or does each company come up with its own range?

Thanks a bunch for the info guys! Although my real question is, are there any disadvantages of skiing a really flexy boot? or is it all preference? Besides hard charging does it really matter?

Ps-thanks for that link, that site has some sick deals on boots

Each manufacturer has its own flex index. A Salomon 90 may or may not be a Nordica 90. You are probably better in off in too soft over too stiff if you ski off trail primarily.
In a softer boot, as your speed increases you will notice a loss of precision and "drivability" as the boot flexes more robbing you of some power.
In a stiffer boot, if you are "not up to it" it will, like a stiff ski, take you for a ride.
Get the X-wave. Especially if it is cheap. You already know you like the fit.

i don't know how different flexes compare between brands really.

i just know that the salomon race last fits me well, so i just stick with them.

Also check REI.com, at the end of the season they had ample stock of x-waves (forgot if it was 8, 9 or 10s) at fairly good prices, and I doubt they got rid of them yet.
