Cascade Powder Cats going out of business

I think Splat should buy them out and start a new PMGear brand of cat skiing

    -------------------------
Hello, Ray and I have decided to sell CPC2 LLC. If you
are interested in buying the operation please respond ASAP
to Doug at 206-396-5379 to discuss terms. We will not be
operating the business for 2008. We wanted to thank
everyone who rode with CPC and CPC2 and leavenworth cat
skiing. It has been a great ride and we enjoyed it all.

There's got to be someone around here with the cash to build their terrain into a lift served area.

    That sucks.

Forwarded to someone perhaps entrepreneurially bold/stupid enough to even think about it.

So that leaves what one cat/heli operator in the whole state? What a criminal waste of great mountains.

What we need here is a high-powered sugar momma. Isn't that area nice and close to the Chiwaukum Range?

You would get in much, much more skiing in light powder if y'all bought the Teepee!

There's a lot of potential up there. Having skied with them in March during a two-week cold and powder cycle, it was pretty amazing, and all on leased private property. I wonder if that last part became an issue, because when I was there the guides were pretty excited about the future.

Never been skiing there but I know some of the guides and have talked to one the owners before. Great people and supposedly a very nice opperation. Not to mention the suburban cat. Which provides entertainment everytime I drive past on my way skiing.

Or, depending on how you look at at, what a superb use of great mountains (say, unlike the Wasatch)!

Completely different situation. There's enough space in tha Cascades to completely loose a bunch of permit areas.

OK, total snowcat and heliski jong here, but do most cat operations run the way Cascade did, where you get an email alert telling you which days they'll be open (like right after a storm)? Is this just because of the way PNW snow is?

I always assumed that most snowcat operations ran every weekend during the winter, and found terrain good enough to keep their clients happy even if it was way past (or during) a storm. I really wanted to go up with them but it was hard to plan a visit around the weather patterns and their openings. Sure others had similar experiences. At the same time, maybe there just wasn't enough business to be open every weekend. I dunno.

Pardon my jongness. Just wondering... Hope someone buys it and keeps it going.

Sleds have been illegally accessing that private property for at least a couple decades. CPC started enforcing the gate policy pretty seriously when they started running the cat op. Wouldn't be surprised to hear about sleds up there again this winter (cough, cough).

The owners could certainly afford it, and never made any money on it (mostly intentional), but it wasn't really where their interests lay. Oh well, I guess. There definitely isn't much of a cat/heli scene in Washington, simply because nobody wants to pay for it out here. For people who can afford it, there are better places to go...

BTW Phill, there's 2 Suburban's with the Matt-Trax, and all they do is transport you to the yurt (depending on snowfall), and switch off to the snowcats. It's far more fuel-efficient.
    OOOOOOOHHHH, I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!
