After riding off road for about 15 years I finally entered my first race. A bunch of us from Jasper decieded to try the suffer fest that is 24 hour racing. I raced with a five man team and had a blast.
In true form with my riding buddies we pounded way too many beers the night before to the point of falling off my bike on the way to the outhouse.(only crash of the weekend for me) Probably wasn't the smartest pre-ride activity but hey I was nervous and the beer was super chilled.
We figured we would shoot to finish middle of the pack and have a good time doing it. We were way faster than I thought we would be after 5 laps so it was time to learn how to race!
Hangovers gone and new stratagies were discussed and a pound-fest ensued.
I really enjoyed being on the course passing and being passed.
The soloists are wacky but very motivating. ("I get to rest for a few hours so stand up and hammer!" was my little voice everytime I passed a soloist)
Great weekend full of amazing like-minded people. The only negative was the amount of spandex everywhere. I know its a race but I wasn't prepared for all the moose knuckles!![]()
I had a blast and have already signed up for next year. Who knows maybe I will train!
Anyone at this event? Anyone a demented soloist at any other 24 races?
