05/06 Scratch BC to B Squad

Last year I skied a 179 Scratch BC(05/06 black and red ones). I liked it but I'm intrigued by the B Squad both last years and the new ones that came out. As I understand it last year the 184 was softer than the 189/194. Is that still true this year or is the only difference the dimensions? I'm 5'11/165 expert skier. How big a jump would it be from my 179 Scratch BC's to last years 189 BSQUAD? Is this a ton more ski, or just a moderate jump? Would I be better off on the 184? Any thoughts?

Yes the 184 is softer. Huge jump. Yes it is a ton more ski. At your weight yes i'd say the 184 would be better. but thats just my opinion.

That would be a hudge jump. You may want to look at the 184 Squad. Remember the squads have a flat tail, so a 184 squad will ski much longer than a 179 scratch.
    Thanks Shane

    Rossi Fan?

I think there might be other skis that make more sense?

Have you thought about moving up to a 186 Dynastar Legend Pro

    Thats just one example

I own a 185 BC from the same year and owned a pair of 184 Squads. Even in the 184 length, they were the most demanding ski in my quiver...and I have 186 Legend Pro's in that same quiver. The Squads demand that you be on your game all the time. They want a lot of room and have no speed limit. If you charge big mountains or ski enough to get in top shape, then the Squads are great. If you are a weekend warrior (more of what I am these days), forget it.

Also, the BC's are better in pow-pow, but the Squads kill it in the crud. Definitely demo a pair before you buy. I sold my Squads after a few days because I didn't want to have to work so hard every time I was out to try and tame the ski.

At your size I would say that a 185 BC was a better ski than the 178, anyhow. Just my two cents from someone who has owned them both...

I have used a bit a 189 squad pro, and it's definitely not an everyday stick. It's not at his best in powder, for instance, because of poor floatation when not at mach3 speed. So be careful

Well, self claimed experts can ski huge and stiff skis... where as mere mortals can not.
