Domaine Drouhin Laurene. This stuff is amazing, and I don't really like most pinot noirs - too wimpy. It will cost you...

I keep thinking that there's a great joke hidden in here a la Mr. Tonghands, I mean I can even sorta see it Pinot Noir…Magnum.

The problem is, I can't quite figure out how to work it in cause I couldn't be whiter.

    Fuck, this is really frustrating.

    Buster, check this out: http://volunteer.blogs.com/winewaves...eds/index.html

I hadn't realized that A to Z was an amalgamate. Still good shit, though. I've had a couple of the others listed as well without complaint.

    iSalud!

Oh, and avoid the Fly Over Red. Loved that wine, but the corks are rotten and the last few bottles that I purchased were ruined.

Even before I read your post, on the preview I knew you'd posted La Tache.

But, where's the Cros Parantoux, M. Le Sneute?

Dammit - burned by my lack of eloquence again. I meant to say I had only tried the 5 I listed after that comment.

Topic change: all time favorite Pinot Noir?
(*in following aeons old traditions of requisite switching of topics of threads)
Mine: Probably 1985 Dujac Chambolle-Musigny Gruenchers. I'll never afford it again. I did taste a 1959 La Tache, not as good, no sparkling angels, no cosmic creshendos like that Dujac.
Others worthy: Vogue 96 Bonnes Mares & Musigny, 99 Groffier Bonnes Mares, 96 Geantet-Pansiot Charmes-Chambertin, 96 Trapet Chambertin and 96 Domaine de Perdrix Echezeaux.

My favorite Pinot's are from the Anderson Valley. Hush, and especially Navarro.
    http://www.navarrowine.com/main.php

Only problem is the don't do stores so you have to go to the winery or go through mail order.

Also a cool thing is their grape juice. They sell it in the same bottles and its from the same grapes as the actual wine.

I love the stuff. One really interesting exercise is to have a glass of the juice and a glass of the associated wine and to taste each is sucession.
You can really see what changed and what stayed the same and how things evolve from juice to wine.

I find that 20/2 has a slightly fuller flavour than your average pinot.

Back on topic, is Rioja any less expensive for you? It may solve your Pinot cravings.

I'd guess you would. Fuller shit. (please don't make me use an emoticon)

Riojas ain't cheap either, plus they just don't do it for me like pinots do...

For about $10, I think that Mark West Pinot Noir is a good value choice.

Totally fuller shit, but emoticon not needed.

Had to try. I'm loving Rioja at the moment but couldn't tell why I prefer it over Pinot.

some additional NZ Pinots I fancy:

    Porter's - Martinbourough I think
Melness - N Canterbury (nice Riesling as well)
    Black Estate - Waipara

All around $15-$25 if my memory serves correct.

When the cost gets to me, the pinot sub is either zin or beaujolais. Malbec is also very tasty, as are the plethora of mer/cab wonders (MMMMMMargaux!).

But, I'm keeping my focus on pinot here...

Me too - I just had one called "Terrazas de los Andes" that was fantastic.

The only Burgundy I even remember was a 1997 Bouchard Pere et Fils Chambertin Clos de Beze someone brought to a tasting. I cannot afford to swim in those waters, so don't even bother.

I'm waaaay into Rhones lately, especially Gigondas. Wish I had more money...

Peay is another "boutique" vintner that doesn' sell to stores much. Navarro's hard to get for us here in the PNW. Peay r00lz, but ain't cheap.

Yes, the upper 1% certainly suck, don't they, hence the receding water.

    And it's a screwtop! Heresy!

My sister recently sent me a bottle of Eyrie Pinot from the Willammette valley. She says it's awesome, I'm saving it for when she visits.

Best California Pinot I remember is a Kosta Brown from Sonoma, I think. Had some delicious ones in Santa Barbara last summer as well, but got too drunk to remember.

Personally I get the most bang for the buck from Australian, South American, and Spanish wines. Try the Bodegas Borsao Tres Picos garnacha - that's some good juice for under $12.

And the los rocas, often available around here for ~$9

Keep it up! With this kind of Malbec incentive perhaps we'll get Buster south of the equator.
