    Finally some swell, but...

Finally, finally we are going to get some waves in Cali. It has been a month, so I should be grateful. A semi-solid South and even a WNW to back it up. But we are plagued by wind. Guess we can all squeeze into town like a bunch of rats.

I fingure that is why I have grown to prefer the snow. Yeah, powder days get eaten up quick in the resort - but it is still way easier to share. And there is always OB and bumps...

So please - let's all behave and try to share out there. I just need a few hundred, and I'll go home.

I surfed Oxnard Shores. It was 2-3 foot and pretty mellow as far as crowds go. I'm told Blacks had about 100 people out by 8am on Wednesday.

I surfed Magnolia in HB on 7/4. Just a hair overhead on the sets and fun. It was completely zooed by Magnoia standards @ 8a. Both the State lot and the Magnolia street parking were full. HB got me with the parade closure - again. When will I ever learn?

So. OC was nice. Around shoulder high - head high on the sets. Warm = trunks. Good to have some waves. Sounds like Monday was the best day of the week, at least at our little slice of paradise, surprisingly enough

Has the new outflow from the lagoon at Bolsa Chica done anything positive for the surf or is it the same old, same old?

We had a small, quick blast of swell yesterday. 3-4, small by your standards but perfect for a n00b like me. And after a thunderstorm cleared the beach I had it all to myself. First hour or so after the storm I saw 2 people and they were just walking the beach.

I'd have liked a few people out, though, to keep me company while pods of baitfish got popped by 100-pound Tarpon, Snook, and who knows what else all around me. Logically I knew I was pretty safe, but it takes some getting used to after not really being in the water for 10 years.

    South Florida is freaky.

    Florida Freaks

My buddy grew up in Melbourne, FL. Bait fish were flying around, one jumped and flew under his arm - followed by a shark.

Well, he lost a chunk of his torso. Swam to the beach and yelled out "shark"

The tourist came in. His buddy continued to surf until he realized this was not just a joke to scare the tourist.

At least out here we only worry about Great Whites. It is more an all or nothing thing.

Anyway, currently - the crowds behaved, we all got some waves, and the long wait is over.

was out for an hour, had a mid-wave wrestling match with a local douchebag, burned my feet on the sidewalk and for some reason wore a fullsuit. totally awesome.

Come back home, Tuffy. After a sick session in 2' mush we'll hit the tittie bars and head home after our childrens are asleep.

it's been pretty good since sunday...but the crowds, uugggh. you could've walked on a line of punks from the jetty in front of the El segundo pow-plant, to the Manhattan Beach pier Wed.
I have mastered all major sporting activities to a high degree of mediocrity.

    Thumbs up

It was small but lots of fun. Fuck the South Bay shit. Hit up O-side pier early and then Black's in the late morning/arvo sesh. Fun shit and not a lot of guys out. Only about 10 guys at Blacks. Long lefts rolling in, nothing classic but enough for me to rip shit up.

Yeah, it looks like nothing on the horizon.

You know when the surf reports say nothing its gotta be bad since they are paid to be optomistic...

jalama was not bad last week and weekend. couple trips up that way for some firing beachbreak fed my wave hunger. i love escaping the shadow of pt conception. water up there was cold! crowded for that spot but plenty of peaks scattered around for the taking.
