Looking for new mt. bike, need help

I have searched past threads and have not really found my answer, but I think I know it.

My question is; what bike should I get?

    About me:

I ride about two to three times a month (Some street, some dirt)
I currently have a Bontrager Hard tail I got in '98
    I tend to break things
    I weigh 240lbs
I don't want to spend over $1000 (cheaper is better)
I want a full suspension system

My goal is to start riding more. I want a smooth ride both uphill and down. Thats about it.

I did find a '06 Kona Kikapu for $600 that looks cool, but my major concern is the suspension is not designed for my meaty body.

    Your thoughts are welcomed...

I had a Kona Kahuna (predated the Kikapu, but similar idea) and ended up outgrowing it quickly as I started enjoying more technical rides. That being said, it held up through all the abuse I could throw at it.

I am sure others on this board are more in the know then me but Jamis seems to put out a decent bike at a great price...

I think for now a newer air shock should work and just set the pressure to body weight. if you ride more, and more off road, you will need a coil over (spring) and a stiffer spring then stock.

Some jamis stuff one jensonusa.com for deal'o'rama prices.

look for a light duty freeride bike. a few pounds more in bike weight will not effect the bike vs rider weight ratio that much and you are less likely to break the freeride parts, even if you are riding smoother trails.
