you'll never listen to them. i tried that off and on throughout school, and i very rarely listened to them.
just find a smart guy near the front and bat your eyelashes. you'll have notes for the whole semester.
however, if you are set on going the recording route, i highly recommend one that has a computer interface. that way you can store your lectures on your computer and organize by class/date/topic/etc.
i have this one and am very pleased with it.

I do that, and it works well.
I tried a few different models, and I learned that you have to spend some $$ to get one that's worth using. the $50 models kinda sucked.
Now I have a Panasonic that cost $100, and it's acceptable, but I wish I had a better one.
It connects to my computer, and I burn the lectures onto CD, and play them in the car. great stuff for long mindless drives, but useless for driving around town.
