Monday morning porn: Kootenai Creek, MT

Sorry, this won't be quite as exciting as some other Monday morning TRs I have posted this year, but the season is growing late, and the water is running out.

That said, we went for a quick lap on Kootenai Creek Saturday. A group of heroes rapelled in and cut out two huge trees, making the canyon runnable again. Thanks dudes!

We found the water higher than expected, a perfect juicy medium. Since the whole thing is packed into about 3/4 mile, I only got a couple worthwhile shots. Even though this creek is super short and not super hard, it is so much fun and the water quality is absolutely top notch. It is hard to beat an afternoon on the creek, running quality whitewater, then sitting in bottomless green pools beneath moss covered cliff walls, all just minutes from my front door.

Here is me and then the world famous Ho Bobber, dropping into the incomparable Skinny Hips.

Vino runs the Falls for the first time. You can see the room of doom, or the Toaster Slot, to his left behind the big boulder. Stories of carnage abound on this drop and on this creek in general, mostly because lots of shakey up and coming Missoula boaters use this as their proving ground.

And finally, the last slide, where Vino gives 'er the famous over the shoulder scout.

Sure wish I made it on some of them 'root creeks when I lived out thataway.

That looks like an over the shoulder scout combined with the beginnings of a confidence inspiring stern squirt.

If you're season is petering off, consider motoring this way for some Cooper or Tumwater runs, both are good into mid-August.

Ira running the falls backwards and upside down? I didn't know video existed, but I have seen the helmet damage.

Freak, you wanna hit it this week before it runs out of water?

Just got this in an email from Hoheim...a nice scenic. It's always interesting to see pictures when the trees are all leafed out, since that only happens at the very end of the season for most stuff around here.

yup not much for jobs in those little mizzoo sattelite towns. Lolo does put ya closer to all those rootcreeks and idaho. just don't know if I want to drive so far to liftserve in the winter. thats why C-falls is my # 1 MT choice at the moment since Whitefish realestate became the next Jackson

Called you last night...we hit it at about minimum flows. I think she's done unless we get a bunch of rain. I pitoned hard at the falls, and got stuffed back in behind the curtain and almost let go of my paddle while upside down. It was rad.

Where's the new pad? I want to move back to Missoula so bad, the root is killin me.

I never really liked snowbowl, even though it beats everything in the midatlantic, but thats a whole other discussion.

In May, The Times of London, interviewing witnesses in Diyala province in Iraq, described scenes from the hard-core Salafist version of Islam being enforced (similar to what the Taliban imposed in Afghanistan), including breaking the fingers of those who repeatedly smoked cigarettes, prohibiting grocers from displaying bananas (as "obscene"), and requiring them to screen cucumbers from tomatoes (as the latter are "feminine vegetables"). One local man said he assumed that another restriction that farmers modestly cover their goats' "nether regions" was just a rumor, until he saw a goat wearing boxer shorts.
