Merrick waterhog 8'6" Vs schaper BP 8'8"

I have narrowed my selection to these boards because of size, shape availabilty and price merrick is about fifty to seventy $ less. I don't know which to go with?
The merrick is nice but it is rated for beginner to intermediate and the Bp is rated as an advanced bored. I have a feeling the BP might be a better main LB that I can grow with... Where as I am affraid that with the merrick I will be traiding it in next year. Does any body have an opinion about either of these boards pro or con.

I reccomend you buy a Softop.

Why? Because i have no fucking clue who you are, where you surf, or how well you surf.

Merrick is a shortboard shaper (not that Al or CI itself does any work on the boards now) Don't bother buying Merricks that aren't shortboards.

I've got a great beginner board you can grow with for sale if you're anywhere near Santa Barbara. It's a Fineline 7'8' egg shape 3 fin thruster setup. The board is about a year old and I'll sell it with a bag and leash for $400.

Why oh why would I spend money on a board that I know that I am not going to be happy riding with the intention of trading it in next year? I mean are these boards such dogs that I would be better served by going and getting a softop. I would much rather just go and get a used long or mid glass board for the same price or less. Oh and I am no where near santa barbara and I am not really looking far an egg. I really want to buy a long board that I will be able to hold onto for a while and then next year get something else smaller say around 7'2 mabey an egg wtf thats a year from now. I am trying to buy a LB this weekend.

so you could give a deserving surfshop money and you'd hate surfing it so much you wouldn't crowd the lineup?

if you haven't figured out by now from the answer here and on surfermag, people need more information
