Nice pics. Was the camera set to auto.? Did you use the zoom? Did you set it on 2 pics/sec.?

i'm a total g7 jong. just got it last week. zoom, yes. the first set was shot almost all the way zoomed (i was quite a distance from the launch site, maybe 8-10 miles?). i shot it with the manual shutter set at 1/250 (some 1/1000) and let the exposure auto adjust. i did use the continuous, it seemed fast. even fast enough for ski pics. i'm looking forward to using this camera a lot more.

Those are beautiful! I have always wanted to see a shuttle launch, just haven't been able to make it to one yet.

    Thanks for sharing.

i was across the river in titusville, at about the S in S Washington Ave on the map. i got lucky and walked up to a clear spot about 10 minutes before launch. the people behind me let me know that they were in that spot since 8am. note: i was sitting down on a rolling slope below them and NOT obstructing their view whatsoever, yet they made a point to talk loud about how rude people are.....f-in turistas.

Sounded like continuously ripping paper, didn't it? It's definitely a different sound than what I expected.

My colleagues stay at the Holiday Inn in Titusville when they go cover the launches (we have an account at the Hilton in Cocoa Beach.) There's actually a pretty decent Mexican place right near where you took these pix.

    Oh, TeleHoar, you astronaut, you!

I like 'em. Interesting colors on the water. I like the blurring of the reeds in the foreground--makes the shuttle a little more distinct. #s 4 and 6 are my favorite with the long winding trail of smoke.

Wonder how the pictures would have been different if you had used a slower shutter speed--would have smoothed out the water a little bit and showed some motion with the shuttle, but I don't know if that would have been good or bad. Either way, some quality work there.
