Landlord stickin it to me... Anyone looking for a roomate in the Seattle area

So I'm in KC for a couple of months and the landlord decides to raise the rent on my apt. while I'm gone from $650 to $850 as of 7-1-07. While I'll miss my view, F-HER! It's not worth it...

I haven't even started to scope the want ads for a room yet...since everything I've ever needed (not really, but you know what I'm saying), I've been able to find within this community. I thought I'd ask here if anyone needs a roomate in Seattle. I'll be back in town for the 4th hopefully in time to make it back down to Hood for the summit and to pack up my crap. I'd like to be able to give my 30 day notice with this crazy lasy ASAP so Any help is appreciated!

Aren't you giving up on your place a bit too easily?

Surely the Landlord has to produce comps for other flats in the area to justify the increase? You then produce your comps and a happy medium is found no?

Have you been a good tenant, regular rent payment etc? Tell them you want to stay but to go easy on the uplift - ie: point out the benefits of keeping you in place.

Ah well, good luck anyway.

Also, this may be better placed in the Padded Room - anything off topic other than re-homing dogs messes with the flow of ski stoke and TR tom foolery.

I don't think she has to do anything like that. There's no rent control in Seattle at all. I've been month to month for the last year, and paid in cash, on time, every time... It's in south Seattle, so it's also a bit of a pain to get together with friends sometimes. I don't see how she can justify a 30% increase, besides she can't afford the place anymore...

1. Rent Increases
In Seattle, if a landlord wishes to increase housing
costs by 10 percent or more over the level of housing
costs during the preceding 12-month period, the landlord
must give written notice of the increase at least
60 days in advance. The term "housing costs" means
rent and other periodic or monthly fees for other
services which are paid to a landlord by a tenant, but
does not include utility charges that are based on
usage and that a tenant is obligated to pay under the
existing terms of a rental agreement....
