The hookup fell through and I've got 3 options: I have paralysis by analysis so help push me over the edge.

6-10 Walden Magic Fish: Used 5/6 times, with leash and 2 sets of fins, retro keel and MR Thruster. $475
6-10 7s Aussie Fish, new: Basically a sashimi clone, I think. $350
6-8 7s Super Fish, new, clear color: $400 + tax

I'm leaning toward the Walden. Really think a fish would suit my fat, sucky self and after tax and a leash the new Super would be as much as the magic.

The Aussie is cheap, but decidedly smaller than the other 2.

7s and GSI suck - shit glass jobs and durability. Walden is another big crank 'em out board factory.

They weren't my first choices, but I can't justify the much higher spend to get something "custom" when 1) I'm going to bang it up learning and 2) I'm not sure what I want. Maybe in a year I'll go that route.

If you're learning then I wouldn't get any of those boards. I'm not knocking any of them but you will have a much steeper learning curve.
Start on a long board and learn how to catch waves and control your feet and direction.

In longboardey waves on a longboard I can do all that. I'm fine suffering a little now to have something that will be more fun in a couple months.

I got the Walden last night. And after almost 2 weeks of rideable surf it's lake-flat this morning.

This thing is big. Think I'll go for a long paddle.
