    Fly Reel Questions

I'm new to fly fishing but recently got a 4 weight LL Bean rod for small rivers and streams in Colorado. I'm looking for reasonably priced reels and wanted some suggestions on brands, etc. I'm not going to notice if something is high end or not but just want something that'll allow me to learn the sport and be durable. Is under $100 a reasonable price? Thanks.

For a 4wt reel <$100 is reasonable, at that weight reels are mostly line holders. Check out the Orvis Battenkill. Other makes at roughly the same price would be Ross Reels or Teton Fly Reels

STH mr cassette pop series is cheap and comes with the interchangeable cassettes. No need for buying extra spools, that normally are 3/4 the price of original reel. Cassettes are around 10-bucks last I saw. I've abused a 4,5,6 model I was given in 1991 on anything from trout to kings, and 30-plus sockeye days. They are cheap, but if you lose one, big deal, and they work just fine for trout. Cabelas had them in the bargain cave in Lehi for 32-bucks the other day.

On the other hand, if you are just going to use one line...get a Ross.

My Orvis Powermatrix has a 10wt STH on it that I don't mind using to club fish with.
