Well, I've finished up with my time in SLC. It was so much fun meeting/skiing with/riding with/drinking with all you crazy internet skier people. My time to leave came up so quickly that I didn't really get a chance to say goodbye to many people, but I hate goodbyes anyways, so there. Some of you I didn't get a chance to meet, and unfortunately I never got a chance to climb with Phunk et al, but if fate would take another twist I may find myself back in the area, this time for good. Or as permanently as I can ever bring myself to commit to anything.
If so, there will be lots of climbing, mountain biking, road biking, ski touring, and all the other beautiful things in life.
Things I learned while in Utah: 1) I'm now addicted to road biking and have become a huge junkie, 2) homebrewing is the way to go for sure, especially if it involves being incredibly wasted for 17 hours straight, 3) pull out the poker face when your older LDS patients talk about their "vibrator," 4) never hang out with your boss too much or it will piss off his wife, 5) never underestimate the power of Altachic's cookies at 2 am, 6) If I ever beat AC at downhill mountain biking I'll probably be the most badass person on the planet and I should get a prize- though I don't have to worry because that will never happen! and 6) never challenge DTM to a race- even if he's running and I'm on a bike!
I had an amazing time in Utah, and it wouldn't have been possible without Altachic and DTM. These two are hands down some of the coolest people I have ever met. Their hospitality is far and beyond what I would have ever expected from people I met over the internet, and the good times and good conversations I had with them were things I'll always remember with a smile. Thanks for dealing with all my work drama- still don't know how exactly I got into the middle of that, but at least I'm out now, and it was very nice to have people to talk to when I felt like pulling my hair out.
You guys were the normal people who kept me sane.
You always have a place to stay in Golden whenever you want, and hopefully at some point this winter I can come visit you when you actually have snow, and you can show me what the Wasatch is really like.
These last two months went REALLY fast, and thanks to all of you who made it hard to leave. No, really. That just means I might come back someday.
arrivederci from the far side of the mountains,
