    PFD knife

    Anyone come up with a good way to attach a knife to a PFD? I just picked up a CRKT Bearclaw. It has a clip but noway am i trusting it to keep the knife on it as it only secures on teh one side

    Zip ties maybe?

    I don't think zip ties are a good idea...

    What kind of life jacket do you have? Most PFD's come with a place to attach a river knife.

    Use some string/rope to attach it to the lash tab.

    I've got the same knife. Take some round shoe string and wrap it all the way around the sheath through the cutouts on the side and through your PFD lash tab. Sweet knife. Never had mine fall out and it hasn't rusted or gone a bit dull after 4 years of being on my PFD.

    Uhhhhh, you don't zip tie the knife. Just the sheath. I have the same knife. I clip it into place and use 2 zip ties to secure the sheath. Most people I see use this method. Works perfectly.

    so what i ended up doing was tie off between the single holes and the slit around the corner of the lash tab. i did this on all for corners. seems pretty good though i imagine the zip ties would be easier to get it nice and snug on there

    Back when I took Swiftwater the instructor had his knife attached to his PFD with surgical tubing...strong enough to keep the knife there dangling should it be knocked from the sheath but easily breakable with a strong tug in case of emergency.

    I don't have a solution to the sheath/vest interface;

    But to keep my blade in the sheath as it hangs upside down on my vest, I drilled a hole in the handle and put a rubber band through, then looped the other end of the band over the top of my sheath. That keeps it in more securely, and makes me less worried about self evisceration.
