Wow that's awesome -- small world. I don't sail competitively that much but I know a few sailors from LGYC. Do you know the Porter's? Vincent basically taught me how to sail my Laser when I first got it a few years back. That same summer they also took me out on their A which was sick. Do you know the Lamphere's? Gottliebs? There are a few more we know from LGYC but I can't remember off the top of my head.

You're name doesn't ring any bells but it's still cool to see someone from the Lake on here. I'm Jamie Rosenfield and my family has rented the same house in Buena Vista in Fontana for the last 14 years. We used to live in Chicago and we went up there a bunch, but we moved to New York City so now we only go up for August. I hear there is a new Laser racing program in August this year which I hope to be able to participate in.

This is our boat Senta, a 53' cutter designed by Philip Rhodes, which was built in 1937. It is our home. We did all the exterior bright work and stripped and revarnished the spars last spring, summer and fall. This year we plan to sail from New Rochelle up to Maine.
that is a gorgeous boat. How much of the restoration have you done yourself? Still teak decks?

I can feel your pain for stripping and varnishing...the cheoy lee we own(35 ft perry design sloop dont have a picture handy but this is a similar one: http://www.cheoyleeassociation.com/Sale/MEhrlich.htm ) And have been trained to strip, sand and varnish since i was about 8 years old. So much work, and the boat hasnt seen much use over the last two years, so I'm going to have my work cut out for me starting next week.

I've been working on a buddy's Pearson 35 this week getting it ready for the summer. Taking everything down to bare wood and using this great wood gloss product that only requires around 3 coats instead of the 7 of usual varnish I'm used to. You cut the first coat with water, then apply the next two coats while its still wet(waiting about 24 hrs) and it looks gorgeous. I'll definitely be switching from Zspar to this stuff.

I picked up a new tool this week, Fein multimaster. Its probably the best tool investment I've made in a long time. This week alone I've used it to cut wood, Sintra board, remove caulking, sand, and scrape. If I were wealthy I'd buy one for everyone I know.

Dude, I totally wish I was there to give you a hand. All I want to do right now is be on the water (or at least the dock).

Of course I know the Porters. I used to hang out with Corbett, and Brian & family live right next to the Youngquists who I know well. I also know alot of kids who live in/near BV. My sister dated Jake Chanson, so I know him and his crew who are always together. I grew up over on Black Point. I'm doing summer school in SLC, pretty bummed I won't be able to race this summer. Good luck with your laser. Maybe I'll run into you at Chucks this Aug when I will be back.

I'll probably spend too little time on my Laser this summer. I should be able to send my daughters out in it alone this year.

Owner of the sled I'm on spent thursday/friday/saturday getting poked prodded and examined at the hospital in an emergency for his back, local racing is pretty much done for the year because of that but I'm spending June/July/August on another sled in Stamford and in the BBR on an I14.

Stamford/Block Island was pretty much once again a wash with no air, hopefully Stamford-Vineyard won't be blown out.

Could have gotten on another boat for Figawi but was too busy with Memday weekend festivities.

I have been on a great spring run of windsurfing on the Great Lakes.
My Favorite is an AHD FreeRide 68 with Sailworks Retro 6.5. Works for 75% of the sailable conditions on Lk. MI. Planes through the lulls, and is quite manuverable on the wave for a free-ride board. This is a good 18-25 knot setup for me.

Last trip was a 25 mile downwinder on an AHD Maui project, 5.6 NeilPryde Zone. Way Way Way Fun!

I will also be sailing a star with a buddy when time permits. He is willing to take me whenever I have the time. His normal crew understands my crazy schedule, and lets me sail about 5-6 races a year.
    It's got more paprika.

Trying to get down to SoCal with a real truck and drag my San Juan 23 up here to Jackson Lake...
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

Gorgeous. Wanna come help varnish my boat? You look qualified. My boat was designed by Al Mason, who studied under Rhodes. I've spent a lot of time sailing in Maine and Canada, let me know if you have any questions.

Laseranimal - let me know if you want to try sailing something a little heavier than a laser.

My sailing plans are fairly standard. Work on boat. Work on boat. Work on boat. Go sailing. Repeat.

Heavy work year, so we won't get too far from home.

    moving to dc for sailing

spring and fall are OK, because you avoid most of the worst traffic and there is actually wind. summer is worthless.

Wow, someone on TGR who's from Lake Geneva AND knows the Porter's and people from BV?! Too weird. Anyway yeah, maybe I'll see you this summer around the 'hood. But more than likely I'll be at Gordy's rather than Chuck's . Much better food.

    for a hat ?
    ohhhhhh, that's rich !

Jack: NO… NOT GOOD… STOP… NOT GOOD. What are you doing? You’ve burned all the food, the shade… The rum!
Elizabeth: Yes, the rum is gone
Jack: Why is the rum gone?
Elizabeth: One because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels. Two that signal is over a thousand feet high, the entire Royal navy is out looking for me, do you really think that there is even the slightest chance that they wont see it?
Jack: But why is the rum gone?

But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!

sad thing is, people will pay stoopid money for a hat they didn't "earn" by "racing" - can you say: poseur extra ordinaire ?
I got so sick of people in bars offering me $100 bucks for my red cap. I finally did take the money in a stupor and proceeded to "drink my hat" with my buddys.
Now where can I get a Red Bull cap ? for cheap ?
